Rec'd a call from a fellow claiming to be Jonathan Kaplan of Lawrence Advertising of Massachusetts.  Seems the poor guy had mistakenly printed one of my company's 800 numbers on a whopping 300,000 brochures.  He was in a real pickle and was wondering whether we'd be willing to give up our 800 number so he could mail the 300,000 pieces without overwhelming our switchboard (how thoughtful).  After a little searching on Google, come to find out there's really no person named Jonathan Kaplan working in the PR and Advertising business.  Now what kind of Ad Agency doesn't have a web presence in this day and age.  His Follow Me number  is 800-657-7333.

I received the same phone call with the same pitch.  He must make a lot of mistakes.  He offered $2000 for my phone number and said he would FedEx a check.

We got the same "song and dance" from someone named Michael Howell with the same follow-me #!

We received several calls from "Michael Howard" of Lawrence Advertising.  He originally provided the 800-657-7333 number asking us to call him back (number does not work).  He eventually called us back to inquire about the status of us giving up our 800 number that he wants.  He gave us the following contact information on his latest call to us:

We received a call from Michael Howard of Lawrence Advertising wanting to purchase our 800 # because it was inadvertently printed on 300,000 pieces being mailed to senior citizens.  I couldn't find Lawrence Advertising in Boston, MA anywhere on the internet so I Googled the number he gave me (800-657-7333).  Michael would not tell me the 800 # that was supposed to be printed.  He just said it isn't even close to ours.  Hm, why not tell me then?!

Yes I just got a phone call from a Michael Howard at his quote "catch me number 800 657-7333, with his saying he represented a client who had printed up 300,000 flyers with our 800 number and would we consider selling him our number. After seeing 800notes, I called him back and confronted him with his lie but he had nothing to say...  I don't know what kind of game or scam he is trying to pull off, maybe some sort of bait and switch?

Got the same call from Michael Howard.  What is up with this anyway? I am sure thankful for this information website as I was believing him! Please if anyone knows what is happening, please post it.

what is he getting from this?  I just got a call from "Jay Kaufman" from the same "company" in Stoneham, Mass.  same exact story...  another 300,000 printed copies with the wrong number.  He gave me 1800-238-9093 to call him back...

I just saw that this "advertising agency" is associated through WhoIs with a fellow named Irving Temes...  I traced that to an address in a nice part of baltimore (use google maps streetview to see it) where there is a company called

they purport to do watch repair... including swiss trained technicians...  hmmm.  I think we should give them a call.

now it appears, after further research, that this 410 number is associated with Equitable Estate Buyers, which in fact has a shop sign at this Baltimore address.  In fact, the Temes and Co name is also associated with Equitable Estate...  so I think this storefront is the source of these goofy calls...

one more note...  Irv or Irving Temes is the owner of these companies, and of the web site LawrenceAdvertising.com... along with 309 other web sites...  he is also associated with NationalWatch.com, though it could be that he is a legit jewler and nationalwatch is a legit company in Philadelphia not associated with these odd request for toll-free-numbers...  they certainly give Irv a good write-up on their web site...  the state yellowpages site I saw waid that Equitable Estate has about $300,000 in annual revenue... (minus the $2,000 he wants to pay for your toll free numbers...)  I am not sure where to take this research from here except to fly to Baltimore and kick Irv's ass...  anyone with me?
