I get a call from a grandmotherly voice saying there's something going on with my Social Security number (I can't tell exactly because she speaks so quickly). Then I'm transferred to a man with an Indian accent who keeps telling me to take my phone off speaker because he can't hear what I'm saying. My phone isn't on speaker. When I tell him that, he hangs up. It's happened twice so far. I know SSA doesn't conduct this kind of business over the phone. My husband got calls too, and the guy asked my husband to "verify his social security number for their records." My husband let him know in no uncertain terms what to do next--it involved his cell phone and a place where the sun never shines.
