- VerboseThree hang-ups in Toronto today.
- Bill| 1 replyAn east indian guy on the phone, asked for some one else. Wouldn't say where he's calling from, and then hung up abruptly when I said there's no such person. Supposed to be CIBC.
- Caller: CIBC
- Call type: Telemarketer
- T| 1 replyCalled twice, when I picked up I got a recording saying to call this number and quote a "reference" number regarding my credit card. Called CIBC direct and they had no record of calling me. SCAM!
- Caller: NOT CIBC
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Cee| 4 repliesSaid he was from CIBC, and his name was Vish, but the actual # he was calling from was 416 477 2192
The number he gave me to call back was
1 800 678 3228 - don't answer, not CIBC's official 1800 #!!
I'm from Ontario
Nov.28.2017- Caller: "Vish from CIBC"
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- ScamGot this as a voice mail with a reference number. Called and the initial recorded message sounded strange since they said in English "cibc bank" followed by "bank cibc" instead of banque CIBC.
Then the person answering the call sounded very blase....I began giving them the reference number they had left and they asked instead for my name wich I gave. The lady then said "hm that's strange the phone you are calling from doesn't match your name" " I'll need your full name and date of birth as well as card number" I then asked them what the name for the cell was and they said that hey couldn't give out any info...I said well they called me and gave me a reference number so either they want to talk to me or they don't. Then I hung up after the lady couldn't prove who she was. Why provide a reference number and not validate any info. Fraud most likely - Ted replies to Cee| 3 repliesCee. I spoke to VIsh and it is a legit department within CIBC called Client Account Management. I wasn't sure if it was CIBC or not but he was able to give me my DOB and my full address. He was very polite and helpful, too bad I dint get a survey from him. He said that when they call us we see a local number calling us as thats how their system dials.
If you call them, you gave verify your full name and DOB just like any other call center.
I would recommend you checking all your products before putting up misleading posts like this - Ted is lying| 3 repliesTed is lying

Which part dint make sense to you? - MikeHuntleton replies to Ted
Most likely because people don't come to a phone call reporting site for scams, telemarketing and debt collection harassment to try reassuring people their call will be legitimate.Quote:Why do you think i am lying?
Scammers spoof banking and other financial numbers to try stealing money or personal info they will use to steal money. They tend to come and shill about legitimate calls to fool victims into believing their call was legitimate , like their phony reported one was.
That part where your monitoring this thread ( since April?) and attempting to validate calls as legitimate, when normal people who actually get legitimate calls don't go looking up the number and refute what others say their call was about.Quote:Which part dint make sense to you?
Never trust a caller to be who they claim, always call from an official number to verify if they did. - BigA replies to TedYou are certainly hilarious but not in a very funny way. Let's see now. You know who called you yet you looked the number up afterwards anyway. What would be your reasoning for that? You conveniently had the same person talk to you that other poster from 2017 did. You posted in April yet you either are monitoring this thread, have a registered account that you knew someone replied to you, or you came back for, well I can't really think of a reason for you to have come back. Did you talk to "Vish" again and want to give him an attaboy? Did you forget who you talked to? More likely you are simply trying really hard to do damage control and failing miserably at it.
- Anonymousno message...scammer
- Bob replies to Ted| 1 replyHi Ted,
Shame on you! Are you the same guy calling people ? - Tygerkat replies to BobHi, Bob! Are you really expecting a reply from a shill who last posted 2 years ago?
- Marilyn replies to BillYa he doesn't even have up to date information. Says he from cibc.
- PaulGot this call a while ago from “CIBC” listed as (416) 477- 2191 directed to my name and was given a reference number to call back. The number was this 1-800 that is NOT a legit CIBC number. SCAMMERS!!!!! Get a job like the rest of us.. free loaders on government assistance. Pft

- AJLookingfor my wife, I asked who's calling. Man said it's from CIBC. I asked regarding what matter. He said it's personal about her credit card. I asked which CIBC branch he's affiliated. He can't say instead gave me the 1800 678 3228 number and told me to ask my wife to call. My guess is this is another scam.
- Caller: CIBC
- SherryAlso calls now since June leaves a automated voice mess it’s cut off at the start our last name is said then to call CIBC Toronto with a billing matter
- Caller: Who knows if it’s CIBC
- Anonymous| 2 repliesNo need to worry about guys , this is a 3rd party company called as gatestone who are linked with CIBC and CIBC’s collection department so that they dont have to deal with rude customers.
- Caller: 1800-678-3228
- Call type: Debt collector
- MikeHuntleton replies to AnonymousNot sure where you got the idea "gatestone" is a 3rd party "gatekeeper" company or that it is associated with CIBC. There is a Gatestone payment portal company out of NY, so maybe you saw the name somewhere and just assumed it was a 3rd party somehow associated with them.
- Kat* replies to AnonymousUh huh. Sure it is. So why are you here? There's no logical reason for you to look up a known phone number.
