- AlphaThey call me at least twice a week. I don't owe anyone anything so I won't even bother returning the call! They started calling asking for someone I don't even know about one year ago. And about one month ago they started calling and asking for me. If this was for real, you would imagine a live person would be calling rather than a recorded message telling you to call them back. If this is in fact a collection company, this sure is a dumb way to collect money. I wouldn't have them to collect my company's unpaid invoices! What would be even dumber is anyone who actually calls them back!!!

- Edward RingwaldReceived two calls, one on 7/21/09 and on 7/25/09 from MAS Collection asking for someone else - not me. I answered the first one and let the voicemail answer the second one and in both cases, the apparently recorded message is intimidating in character. MAS is calling the wrong person!

- Jay H.The phone calls started from 1-800-749-7710 about a year and a half ago. They started out with a man calling me telling me I owe my house alarm company some sort of late fee and when I called ADT they had no clue what I was talking about. Then the calls went from a live person threatening me with everything under the sun to automated calls. They even started calling from a different number 1-888-799-8009. Well today was the last straw with these people. A Ms Hill called my work and stated she was looking for me. When I told he this was a work phone and asked how she got it she asked me to call he back and hung up the phone. I guess the only thing to do with these people is to give them a little taste of their own medicine and start messing with them back.

- Lex| 1 replyThese people have just started calling me out the blue last week. I have always hung up bc I didn't know who they were. They also leave a message on your voicemail. Even if u do call it back, I just got a busy signal. The number that shows up is 8002267735 but it tells you to call 8007497710. Sounds fishy to me
- M. Awdenza| 5 repliesTo anyone else who comes here looking for information about this phone number, I have a few answers that might help. MAS stands for Merchants Association Collection Division. This is what is known as a "Zombie" collection, meaning that this MAS has purchased a record of debt that someone (in your own case, it may be someone who lived at your place at one time, someone who has passed on, or even someone who used your information to acrue the debt, or even something I haven't thought of).
In any event, MAS can consider the debt real *under certain state laws* <please check yours> IF you call them back - because it means you're acknowledging the debt by voluntarily calling them. What you need to do is look for the letter that will inevitably follow, then write them back, asking firmly (watch your language!) that they supply proof of the debt within 10 business days. THIS IS IMPORTANT - Send the letter "CERTIFIED Registered letter" and "REQUEST WRITTEN CONFIRMATION" from the post office (you have to pay for this, but what's a few bucks versus the obscene amount they're asking from you?). Keep a copy of ALL of the correspondence, including the reciepts from the post office showing you sent them a registgerd letter.
My results thus far: They sent me a letter 37 days after I'd sent them one. The letter contained a "screen shot" of a computer generated "bill". This IS NOT PROOF. It contained no billing codes from the doctor, nor the doctor's name, nor did it have the insurance payments noted. There was nothing in their reply that was an actual bill, other than their demand for payment. What they don't realize is that the date they claim the bill occured was the date of my father in law's funeral. I have the bills from the funeral home, the death certificates, as well as photographic proof from the wake that there was no medical service performed that day for any member of my family.
Folks, if you are smart enough to have Googled the phone number, take the next step and write to them. There are enough sites out there that can help you write the letter, if you need the help. There are even websites out there that can help you find out what to do after that. But doing nothing, or whining about it doesn't help get it taken care of and off your credit report.- Call type: Debt collector
