- Scott/retired NavyGot the letter, smelled a rat, tossed it. Big Red Flag is clicking a link to another website to enter personal info, next is a "sanity check" of why they want my info when they already have my name and address. If it is legit, OPM should know better than this approach. Recommend your local VA center or military base admin office if there's concern on this.
- Caller: OPM mail notice
- Be carefulI do not trust this mailing. My dad passed away a couple years ago. Since then all OPM correspondence goes to my mom (the beneficiary). Not one piece of mail since that time has been addressed to my dad. Something does not feel right with this. Also tried calling the provided 800# several times. Will not let you talk with a real person. The only function available is to punch in the special PIN number and last 4 of the social. I'm not touching this thing. OPM knows my dad passed away.
- AlBeware this a scam they on to him
- Bob replies to hazel| 3 repliesMy son just received one of these notices, and when searching for, 4 Columbia Pike Annex, Washington DC. 20370-1004. on google it does not exist. OPM is on 19th St. NW Washington DC.
this looks like someone using a real data breach to use a scam. My son does not work for the Federal Government, and his only dealing with them was to apply for grant, for Tech School last year. - MarilynReceived an official letter looking letter from OPM. Only trouble is it came in my maiden name that I haven't used in 51 years. Also I already received a letter from OPM a year ago and they are currently doing credit monitoring. I will not respond to this letter. This phone number was on the letter. I will report it to Narf and the Post Office.

- kevinits a scam. i called the fbi and talked to them about it. looks real, sounds real. but a scam to sell you protection and probably steal your info
- S.Vasquez replies to johnI'm a widow of a veteran and received this letter. Didn't find time to respond immediately. When I got a letter to my (deceased) husband, I got suspicious and started googleing. I thought something must not be right, because they now he's deceased, why would they send him a letter. In a way, I'm glad that I could get info online, but on the other hand, if it wasn't for all the free info can get online, I might have not received this letter in the first place.
- CWG40| 1 replyAny communication received by US mail that appears fraudulent should be taken down to the local post office so the postal authorities can take a look at it. This could be mail fraud.
- Caller: Informational post
- Robert replies to johnSo the letter I got is a fraud? It sounded fishy
- cb| 2 repliesThis letter is a scam! Do not give them any information! !!!
- Caller: OPM
- Larry replies to Amber| 2 repliesThis is IDexperts, the contractor handling data protection for OPM regarding the data breach. Come to find out this a return call because they were too busy when I called last night about my ID not verifying on their website. Originally called some 800 # on the official OPM website to get further assistance. It all started from an official OPM letter.
If you got the letter and called the number at the official OPM website but they just took your name and number then this call is legit. - Kkelly 2015 replies to cb| 1 replyIt is indeed a scam. Did quite a bit of research because after scrutinizing the letter, I noticed a lot of things wrong. Also from the looks of some of the comments here, some people sound suspicious to me. Remember, the people behind this scam can also search for website s like this and try to muddy the waters. Some of the other commenters sadly believe this scam and I feel bad for them. I plan on taking this letter to my post office and reporting this.
- Kkelly2015 replies to Judy TI actually looked up what the official letter should look like in Google images and this looks nothing like it. Nice try though.
- T replies to JoeThank you
- 800-750-3004This is not a scam, however I received a letter not a phone call. I called OPM at 202-606-1800 and followed the prompts. If you have a letter with a pin number use the website to register. www.opm.gov/cybersecurity Again, this is NOT a scam. You will receive 3 years of credit monitoring and it can all be done online. You will automatically know if you have any alerts; you can also see your credit report.
- Caller: OPM
- Sherry replies to Kkelly 2015No, it isn't. Call OPM 202-606-1800 If you have a letter with a pin number your information has been compromised.
- An OPM Information Breachee| 6 repliesDO NOT GIVE ANYONE CALLING YOU FROM THIS NUMBER ANY INFORMATION!..... (probably a "spoofed call", unless you have an escalation already on file with ID EXPERTS). This is a valid number, BUT ONLY IF YOU INITIATE THE CALL!.....you will get a letter in the mail with a 5 X 5 security code that has to be used to confirm receipt of OPM's security clearance breach letter and confirm your identity. CALLING THEM BACK AT THIS NUMBER IS THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO COMMUNICATE WITH A REAL REPRESENTATIVES. The company you are calling is a subcontracted call-center company called "EPIQ Systems" working for ID Experts (these people MIGHT be capable of protecting us from Identify Fraud or theft, but I doubt it...based on my experience with them thus far...it's been a BIG CIRCUS ACT WITH NO RING LEADER!) OPM contracted ID Experts and PAID THEM MILLIONS to provide credit and monitoring services for us!
I would recommend that everyone just submit their information via the web-page using the 5X5 pin number in the letter to signup for the monitoring services FIRST, then call the representative at the 800-750-3004 if needed....DO NOT TOSS YOU LETTER, YOU WILL NEED THE 5X5 Pin Number each time you call them!
Office of Personnel Management (OPM), ID Experts and EPIQ Systems, I'd love to talk with "SOMEONE WITHIN MANAGEMENT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SERVICE"....IT WOULD APPEAR NO ONE IS IN-CHARGE! .....I've left several messages, but no one has ever responded!... Beth F. Colbert, Bob Gregg or Jeff Post, I look forward to hearing from one of you!- Caller: Probably a SCAMMER, but could be ID Experts
- An OPM Information Breachee replies to An OPM Information Breachee| 3 repliesCorrection....Beth F. Cobert
- Queenofswords replies to An OPM Information Breachee| 2 repliesHas anyone called and talked to a real life person at OPM to clear this up?
- An OPM Information Breachee replies to Queenofswords| 1 replyI'm a Telecommunication/Network Security person and am VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE! Yes, I spoke with several employees at OPM (202-606-1800) in early October, 2015 (When I received my notification). I even talked with the IG's office (202-606-1200....they were the most informative). Unfortunately, no one knew who had oversight for the program (was run around in circles from one office to another office within OPM), but several people did confirm that the notifications were valid, my clearance background investigation data was compromised (finger prints too) and those that knew of the compromise directed me to follow the instructions in the notification. I was told that they were putting a team together (rumored) to address issues. Since Beth Cobert (202-606-1000) never responded to my messages or concerns and she has now appointed Clifton Triplett as OPM’s Senior Cyber and Information Technology Advisor, maybe he will have some answers...I plan on calling him on Monday! EPIQ Systems/ID Experts can't get the simplest of things fix in my reports or explain why the pulled (CIC/CSID) report for display on the myidcare webpage is DIFFERENT from the information on file with the credit bureaus.
I think a lifetime of protection is due us...Not just "REACTIVE" protection for 3 years and after an attempt to steal is noted, but "PROACTIVE" protection with OPM paying to turn on and off our individual credit/security freezes when needed at all 4 credit bureaus ( Experian, Equifax, Transunion and Innovis). MAYBE SOMEONE FROM OPM SHOULD CONTACTED SENIOR OFFICIALS AT THE CREDIT BUREAUS AND ASKED ABOUT THIS!
