This call was a voice mail message left at 12:21 today (10/7).  The woman identified herself as Dorothy Chapman.  She said I was eligible for a reduced electric rate.  she gave me a reference number.  She didn't address me by name. She gave the number to return the call and said to have my most recent bill when I did.  Doesn't sound ligit to me.

The caller ID I received was just "Toll Free Call". No kidding. Again, no real company would use this instead of their company name. My robo-blocker answered, so I didn't even have to listen to their scam pitch.

Same as the others.  The "Do Not Call" list apparently ineffective.  I wish "Dorothy" and her cohorts could get consequences - there are elderly who answer the phone and get intimidated and scammed......not nice.

Same Dorothy Chapman, same 800 #' and reference number. She never mentioned any specific electric company by name, never said who she worked for either but that I was eligible for a reduction on my electric account for the generation charge due to the state choice program and to have my current account statement handy when I called back. Nope, not happening.

I just received the same call as 'Mom's kid' .  Is there something that can be done to stop these scam calls and their scams? All of us report this to the AG?

This is a competing electric company calling to telemarket you to switch your energy supplier. Unfortunately, Eligo Energy's rates are catastrophic, especially after their six-month teaser rate ends. At last check, Eligo was charging about 7.2c a kilowatt hour to RG&E customers. The lowest priced provider serving RG&E customers in western and central New York is a non-profit co-op -- Energy Co-Op of America in Amherst, N.Y., (they are accepting new customers -- Google them) which charged about 4c a kilowatt hour in early September -- a substantial difference!

Eligo is under investigation for enrolling customers without consent, and they lock you into a contract with a termination penalty. Do NOT give them any information from your RG&E bill, because they consider that consent to switch your provider, even if you tell them not to.

If you are a current RG&E customer, you will do better in the long-term either enrolling in a co-op provider or doing nothing and staying with RG&E.

Got a call from Dorothy Chapman today with all the same details referenced in the previous comments above.  Caller ID display said it was from a "Private Caller".  Don't care who it is or what they say:  If my caller ID says "Private Caller", "Unknown Name" or "Out of Area", the calls get no answer, no acknowledgment, no call-back, no response from me.  Simple as that - case closed.

Same exact thing for me as well. Don't even have to post what was said or numbers she (you know who) used. They are all on the previous posts. What I would like is another number to call to get this stopped.

I got the exact same call from the same lady, same reference number. Someone needs to change the law regarding how the breakout energy service company's do business. They should be required to provide full disclosure regarding who they are, and be allowed to switch your service provider by simply having an RG&E customer account number.

I just got the same voice message, and here's the thing...I live with my parents, and therefore my name is nowhere on the electric bill. Definitely a scammer.
