- PC| 7 repliesI received a text message from Verizon wireless confirming that my phone number was being transferred to a different carrier at my request... I did not request such a transfer This 800 # was the telephone number I was instructed to call if I had questions or did not request the transfer to a different service provider. It is not a phone number that is registered to Verizon Wireless customer service although the voice message affiliated with it does sound very much like the Verizon wireless official voice message. I hung up when the message required me to enter my four digit pin to obtain assistance.

- WW replies to PCReceived the same message and I'm chatting with Verizon now. It is not their number. I think it is a scam. The text seems to come from an international number.
- sandyjust got a text from this number called it back said I had to change my PIN lucky I can't remember my PIN or I would have given it out. The conversation just felt wrong so I hung up.

- ElenaI got the same message, chatted with verizon because I also suspected a scam and was told it was a legitimate one and to call the 800 number indicated. So I did, they asked me for my area code and gave me another number to call but I wasn't fast enough to write it down, luckily... Dialed again to get the number, but the number wasn't active anymore... Reached the verizon fraud department and they said it was definitively a scam and to not be worried because I didn't give away any pin or sensitive information. Quite surprising that the first representative suggested to call a scam number!

- JosieReceived the same message about my number being in the process of a carrier transfer, thank god I didn't call, the message honestly looked pretty legit besides the random 800 number.

- DavidReceived same message from a +90. (008) 000 40 00 and link to the 800 number to call if I did not authorize the transfer. I googled the 800 number because it looked fishy. Thanks for posting to confirm, all.

- BeverlyGot the same text. I would normally toss this aside as a scam, but the text message came in a legitimate Verizon text thread I had going previously. I did not call the 800 786 8274 number, but instead used my MyVerizon app to call Verizon support myself - - on hold at the moment...

- Craig| 1 replyGot this same text today from "899000" saying to call that number if I didn't authorize the transfer. It's especially malicious because I got another text soon after (from a slightly different number "800050001014") saying "During this challenging time, we're here and we're ready for you. To ensure we're doing all we can to serve you, we'd like to ask you a few short questions about your recent contact. How would you rate your overall experience with the representative? Please reply with a number from 1 to 10, where 1 is 'Poor' and 10 is 'Excellent'."
Obviously I never talked to any representative, and after reading this thread, I am not calling the number. They've gone through quite a bit of effort to make this look legitimate. Do not call if you get the same text.- Caller: "Verizon"

- AnnieI got a text saying that my number was being transferred to a different carrier. I did not call the number but l Googled this and found this thread. I'm sure it's a scam, bit it seemed legit because they used a thread of texts that was previously from Verizon. My brother in law works for Verizon and he told me it was a scam.

- Kristi| 1 replyMy son who is on my plan, received a text saying his number was in process of being transferred to a new carrier. He said it was in a chain of other Verizon texts. But I didn’t receive any, and usually will as account owner. I told him not to call. Googled around to read about SIM card hijacking, finally searched the number and came here. My Verizon messages never came from this kind of number, but I definitely cross checked with what I have displayed when I get them, the number didn’t match.
