A Ms Patter from Ameri Mark calls every day and leaves a message to call her that she has important information for us.  We are on the national no call list and should not be receiving any calls.

They certainly do call annoyingly.  I have never - not even once - ordered anything by catalog.  Yet they call and leave the same annoying message on my machine over and over.

They call but never leave a message. I don't know who they are or what
they want. Why call someone back if you don't know who they are or what
they want. There are too many scams going on so I will not call them back.

A pre-recorded message from 'Ms. Patter' with AmeriMark calls once or twice every couple of days telling me she has important information for me and I should call her back. I have never dealt with AmeriMark and I have already reported the calls to the FDC as my phone is on the Federal Do Not Call List. Alas, they still keep calling and leaving the same message. I shouldn't have to call them back to get them to stop calling me.

I received a call from them which came up as a local # 412-577-8393 then the vm was to call back 1-800-801-6287.  They said that nothing came up under my cell phone.  I handling some of my dad's affairs and they made it sound like it was about him but since I didn't have Power of Attorney, they can't verify anything.  When she said it was a mail order company, my radar pinged because my dad would have no idea how to order from a catalog.  I then found all of you so I guess it's a scam of some kind.  :(

They are calling you because you or someone in your household is late on paying them. (you charged on credit) They do not telemarket anyone. In this day and age of debt brokers buying up debt. I would suggest to anyone reading this your best course of action is to make arrangements to pay. Because if you do not they will sue you in small claims court which cost more in the long run. After they throw you in collections and you still ignore .Court will follow shortly.

Interesting that you responded to a post made in 2007!
Did you do that because it is the first post in the thread, and you thought your "answer" would get more attention?

Well, it did. You are now suspected of being a shill for "Ameri Mark" or "Amerimark" or whatever.

    Lurkers:
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Ameri Mark seems to be a web site that sells things such as women's clothing and the Garcina extract that we hear so much about.  http://www.amerimark.com/cgi-bin/amerimark/in ... &media=2Y10915B
I went through the FAQ's and didn't see anything about them having their own credit card or credit sales.
It does seem suspicious that this person suddenly shows up in a very old thread and revives it.  Perhaps they are going to start using this number again to extort money from people?

    Yep -

Once upon a time, during the last century, on a help board not too far away, a group of us found some "game players" taking advantage of the board.  They would hunt for the oldest thread on any particular topic, and resurrect that thread with some inane post.  Their post would bring the thread back to the top of the board, where it could be seen by all -- including the other game players.  We guessed they got points, or some other satisfaction from their nonsense.

It is quite possible that the potential shill is a similar game player, since they left no real identification of the company.  Now s/he can count the responses to their post, and gain extra points.  Alternately, you could be correct, and the scammer is becoming active again, after several years "vacation" somewhere.

Hopefully that "vacation" involved bars & a striped suit in a 5'X8' confined area.
