Sallie Mae. I applied with a co-signer and they were denied. I can't get it on my own and no matter how many times I tell them that they continue to call. I've gotten three phone calls from them just today.

I have repeatedly gotten calls from this number.  It is Sallie Mae.  I have answered the call and gotten a computer voice and I have followed the prompts from the computer voice selecting the options that I am not who they are trying to contact, yet they still keep calling.

I too got multiple calls everyday from this number and I thought it was strange that the first thing that they asked me for was my full Social Security number and they did not specify that it was for security purposes. They had no idea who I was from my loan number.  Although I am the co-signer on my daughters college loan, they refused to talk to me. I have been dealing with Sallie Mae thru e-mail and never received calls from them, they do not call your home directly if you have chosen to apply on-line. I called Sallie Mae and I confirmed the phone number with a supervisor, It is not a Sallie Mae number. I don't know how these dudes got my number but here is a message for them STOP CALLING ME, I AM ON THE NO CALL LIST AND YOU ARE A ROYAL PAIN. I don't want what you are selling, maybe you are just shopping for personal information. Public BEWARE!

They've called me twice but have left no voicemail. I figure if it were really Sallie Mae, then they would have left a voicemail. I'm not picking up.

I called the number back directly, and reach a Sallie Mae representative. The reason they ask for your SSN is because it's something required when you sign for the loan. It's a singly distiguishable number by which they can pull up your account. Not everyone will have their account number handy. I see this as legitimate, but I don't see why they feel the need to call so much, especially, in my case, that I was denied as a co-signer.

The woman I spoke with advised me that a loan application may still be open (even though denied) which I why I would still be on the phone list. She said I would need to check with the applicant to make sure the original request gets closed out/cancelled.

I have received numerous calls from this number;  also 866-971-7882 and another number that I did not write down.  I answered the calls a few times and called back on other occasions.  They all claim to be Sallie Mae representatives.

My daughter, who no longer resides at my home, applied for a loan and was turned down.  She used her cell phone number when applying for her loan, so why would Sallie Mae use my home phone number to contact her...she never gave the number to them.  I told the representative that my daughter does not live with me, so please stop calling here.  She will call Sallie Mae.  They continue to call every day.

My son and I were approved for a loan and the money has already been disbursed to the university.  I received calls from the same number regarding this loan.  The representative told me that he had to confirm some information in order to finalize the processing of the loan.  He didn't know what to say when I told him the school already had their money.

I proceeded to tell him that he, yes the same representative, called twice about my daughter's loan.

THIS DEFINITELY IS A SCAM!!  I WOULD HAVE BEEN SCAMMED TWICE IF I HAD BEEN GULLIBLE ENOUGH TO GIVE HIM THE INFORMATION HE ASKED FOR.  BEWARE!!!!!!

PAL said "They had no idea who I was from my loan number" so your "Not everyone will have their account number handy" as rationale for providing PAL's SSN is senseless. Furthermore, one shouldn't give out personal info until *after* the other party's been positively identified as benign. Giving out your SSN simply because they *said* they were Sallie May isn't smart. I'm the IRS, what's your SSN?

If you don't know or aren't sure who you're calling, do not give out any personal info for any reason even if they say it's for security reasons.
