I have received phone calls in the past week from a Mr. Howson and a Mr. Brown requesting my social security number along with other personal information to verify a debt they are trying to collect.  

The first thing I did was to do a reverse lookup on the toll free phone number given and found several reports about a new consumer scam called ARBITRATION scam associated with the toll free number. (http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/mann_bracken.htm )  I returned Mr. Howson’s call and asked for a non-toll free number, Mr. Howson told me it was not company policy to give out that number, but if I would give him my social security number, he would tell me to whom I owed the money.  I politely refused and asked what company he was with, he told me Mann Bracken Attorneys at Law.  I asked where and he said, Atlanta Georgia.  He suggested I call the Better Business Bureau and I would see the law firm he represented was a very good firm.  He asked me to be sure to call back the toll free number to save me money.  I looked up Mann Bracken Attorneys at Law, Atlanta Georgia on line.  I spoke with their representative and was told they had no record of me or any debt I owed.  I gave all the information I had at the time regarding the phone call to the Mann Bracken Attorney at Law, Atlanta, GA consumer affairs department.  Since that call (Wednesday October 17) I have received the enclosed letter requesting payment from Mann Bracken, LLC dated October 16, 2007 requesting payment of a debt to Midland Funding LLC for $1,524.16. I am still unable to find any information about Mann Bracken LLC other than it is associated with fraudulent activities as well as fraudulent activates with Midland Funding LLC.

A Mr. Brown left a message at my job leaving the same toll free number and a non-toll free number of (678) 801-2468 - I couldnt find anything regarding this number any where in all my searches.  

I am unfamiliar with Midland Funding LLC or any debt of this nature. I have filed complaints to the Department of Consumer Affairs for both the state of Tennessee and Georgia as well as filling a complaint with ConsumerAffairs.Com Inc. ( http://consumeraffairs.com/ )

I just received the same phone call that you did with almost the identical information given to me.  

I am going through a debt consolidation with my credit card companies through a legitimate law firm, so they are probably searching for people, gullible enough not to check them out.  

I am going to report their call to my law firm.

I am finding out the same information on these guys. I contacted a reputable old attorney's office here in Savannah and they indicted that these guys are shady at best and the people you are talking to may not even be directly affiliated or employed with the Mann Bracken, but "a debt collector at the law office of Mann Bracken" which means they are renting office or desk space from the attorney's office - fully legal play on words. Beware - many legitimate fraud alerts.

The Sheriff's office just delivered us a summons to appear in court for an $11,000 MasterCard debt!  When I called Mann Bracken and spoke to Gimel, he wouldn't give me any info of what the charges were for!!!  We have NEVER had a MasterCard.  When I asked him for a phone number for Mindland Funding, he said he couldn't give out their client's #!!!  I'd have to find it on line!! Looking at Midland Funding, shows this is a FRAUD!  I'm not even going to try to settle with them for something we definitely DO NOT owe!
