Should I be concerned? replies to Matt
I received numerous voice messages from 1-800-816-5576, saying to call them back and refer to my file number which they received in end of August, that it is a serious matter, the deadline is approaching, and that I leave them with no choice and will act upon their client's next wishes, etc.

I don't know if this a scam. I don't intend to call them back. If this was a serious matter then they would send something to me in the mail I would think or leave the company name that they are calling from or more detail on what the serious matter is.

Sounds like collectors replies to Should I be concerned?
If you get a call and the caller: (1) says it's urgent/imperative/etc. that you call back, (2) doesn't identify the company, (3) talks about having "paperwork" ready or gives you some imaginary file number, (4)calls back and repeats (1), (2), (3) endlessly, (5) is apparently stupider than a bag of hammers - then 999 to 1 it's some lowlife collection agency trying to intimidate you.  And be aware that most of these collectors are otherwise unemployable and under 25, so the person giving you a hard time is some snotnosed kid still suffering the scars of puberty and ready to take it out on you.

Believe me, I've had dealings with these types.

You're right: if it's important, they'll send you something in writing.  But they can't do that because they can't verify any of their bogus claims.  Ignore or block them.  DO NOT give them financial or personal data over the phone.  EVER.

Same as above.  Said he represented Citibank.  Refused to describe business purpose.  Said his company was NCO  Financial Systems.  That is a real company.  If he works for them, they deserve a call!

I PAY ALL MY BILLS. BUT I LET MY CITI BANK BUSINESS CARD GO FOR A FEW MONTHS THEN I RECIEVED A CALL FROM NCO'S PRE-LEGAL DEPARMENT I ALSO RECIEVED A LETTER STATED MY ACOUNT IS IN PRE-LITTIGATIONS. I ALSO CALLED CITTI BANK DIRECTLEY AND THEY CONFIRMED THE CLAIM. SO RATHER THAN GOING TO COURT I PAYED MY BILL. 1-800-816-5576 IS NOT A FRAUD. IF YOU DONT PAY CITI BANK THEY WILL SUE YOU!

Bill payer above is obviously a collection agency employee, nice try. I skipped on 2 Citi cards (over $23,000 ) 4 years ago and NO lawsuit.

no, they don't deserve anything at all.  Citibank has already charged off the accounts and then sells them off to bottom feeders for collection companies just like NCO.  They are scum just like most collection agencies.  The US goverment should rule that these companies are not allowed to go after you once the original creditor has charged off the account.

Unfortunately I cannot block these guys from my phone, it's a prepay. The benefit of that is that they cannot confirm that it really is my number since my name isn't attached to it in any way. But they call my neighbors, I don't know how they get that number since I didn't give it to them. It seems illegal that they could look that up in the phone book and call them since they live close to me. They called my parents today which is weird because they JUST got that number and I also did not give it NCO. He told them all sorts of stuff about why he's calling which I thought was also illegal, to discuss that with anyone else. Eh, w/e. I'm not returning the call. Citi just got billions of dollars of taxpayer money, so as far as I'm concerned my debt to them is paid.
And yes, I know that that is not how it works. But that's logically how it works to me.

    BILL PAYER - 21 Jun 2008
Sounds like he works for NCO.
How would he know if Citibank will sue him if he paid all his bills.
Hey buddy, if we all paid our bills, scum like you wouldn't have work. You were smart enough to comment on this page to help the credibility of NCO but in the long run, you're not doing yourself any favors. But let's face the truth: there is no long run for collectors. Very high turn-around.

I got a call from them today and when I refused to give her my social she went balistic on me and ended up hanging up on me all together.  I called the Local sheriffs office and spoke with them.  They were very helpful.  they claimed they were National Litigation.  She was rude from the get-go and got nothing but a kiss-it from me.
