It is a legitimate call from the Illinois Tollway. If your ipass hits a negative balance, they call to remind you to add funds. The problem is that their system can keep up with the volume of transactions, and the calls usually come days after you've already updated your balance.

I saw that movie a few years ago.  Really, really scary, lots of blood, beheadings, and that slimy monster....gave me nightmares for weeks after.

hogwash posted on 28 Feb 2012 and its pretty clear they were ranting about the caller, confused that it was Illinois Tollway/E-ZPass calling them over a toll payment. Scammers send emails out to people and make calls to phish for info or attempt to get a victim to pay. Scammers spoof legitimate numbers on a daily basis these days and they don't know who is an actual customer sometimes, so they "blanket" call numbers around the areas of the tolls.
Never trust a caller is who they claim to be, always call an official number to find out if they did.

Surely a somewhat convincing scam. I received the call twice today on a work phone that couldn't possibly be associated with my iPass account. After my first call to be certain I checked my account and I have a healthy balance and no violations.

Absolutely correct about the scammers spoofing legitimate numbers. Mike Huntleton's comment "Never trust a caller is who they claim to be, always call an official number to find out if they did" is the best advice.  The Illinois Tollway frequently warns about scams using emails as well: https://www.illinoistollway.com/fraudulent-electronic-communication.

Got a call from this number at 930pm on a Wednesday, caller id showed the caller as THOMPSON THOMAS, my deceased step father. When I questioned the girl her explanation was "Maybe it's his ghost, this is the illinois tollway number...." gave her my number..... no violations on my account. Not sure exactly what this means or what their intentions were.

This looks to be legit in my case, two calls this morning from the IL Tollway (IPASS) but did not leave a message.  I live in Crook County and use the tollway regularly, and after this weekend my account was actually in the red by $1.50.  I added funds on the IPASS website, will see if the calls stop.  They used to send an email reminder if your balance went negative, plus they offer automatic replenishment if you choose.

That can't be true because I don't have an iPass and I get calls from that number also.

    Mad driver replies to Annoyed.
I received a notice or invoice for funds due. I checked the location of the alledged violations. It indicated that between point A and point B with the times of the violations on the invoice that I would have had to drive 277 MPH for the violations to be correct. I think NOT!!!! Didn’t get much satisfaction after about an hour on the phone with the so-called authorities. Of course I had to keep trying their number for over an hour before I was able to speak to a real person.

Rec'd 4 calls from this number starting at 8 am.  Sounds like a scam will block this number.

I got a call from this number this morning and they didn't leave a message. It can't be for real because I don't even have an I-Pass.
