- Jack| 3 repliesGot the automated call today saying it was Cabelas Fraud Protection. Someone tried to charge several hundred dollars on my card at AT&T and Boost Mobile, thankfully they caught it and declined the charges until they could confirm with me.
- Caller: Cabelas Fraud Protection
- Roger replies to JackYou got scammed by a fraud. That was not Cabellas that called you. They are the frauds trying to get your info!!
- Joe sibleyClaimed my Cabellas card was compromised at a toys r us in Georgia, and they needed verification of card used. Yeah right. I'm not stupid! Called the real Cabellas and they had no record on file of that transaction. The real Cabellas cancelled my old card number and gave me a new one as a precaution. Don't be fooled. The real Cabellas already has your card info on file!!
- Caller: Fake Cabellas

- SueWanted my mother's maiden name and last four digits of my social...I don't think so!
- Caller: Cabela's fraud detection
- Royce BooneFrom a man claiming to be from Cabela's. Said that there were 3 card activities: the first from Mexico. The message was for me to hold on for the next available person. I waited and waited; and, then hung up.
- Caller: Cabela's
- KyleI received a call from this number. It is indeed Cabela's fraud. I went on here to see what the number was and was leery I was being scammed. I had gone to use my card and it was declined.
I didn't call the number back that was left in the voice mail. I called the actual Cabela's Customer Service and I had fraudulent activity on my card that they shut down. All was taken care of thankfully as I had a Wal Mart charge of just under 1000 and 3 other charges from various places.- Caller: Cabelas
- David GThis call was legit! I called the Cabela's number (not the number that was left in the phone message) from my account info and someone made a charge of $1,300.00 to my card and they flagged it.

Rather than believe the posts in this thread, or the words of an anonymous caller,
if you are notified of a problem with your card,
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD
Even though the number in this thread might belong to your card issuer, the scammers can easily spoof what appears on your CallerID, and attempt to get your precious ID and card data!
Be Safe, Not Sorry!
CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - Ed E.I missed a call from 800-853-6677. Had a message in my inbox to call the same number because of questionable activity on my Cabelas charge card. I checked this web sight to see if it was a bad number or not. Then called the number on the back of my card and found out the number 800-853-6677 is a legitimate number from Cabela's fraud department. There was suspicious activity on my card.
- Caller: Cabelas
- LMTThis call was not a fraud or a from a scammer. It was indeed Cabelas! After I called the number given in a voice message (800-853-6677), I called again using the number on the back of my Cabelas card. It was confirmed that my card had been compromised. Thank you Cabelas for being vigilent in reporting suspicious activity!
- Caller: Cabelas
- jtagraThis call was in fact from Cabelas. I checked my account and saw there was a charge that I never made. Just in case I called the number on the Cabelas site, rather than what the message left. There was another charge today that wasn't yet posted on the site, over 700 in charges total!!!
- Caller: Cabelas
- JgfAfter answering the call and speaking with the representative from the Cabela's Fraud department, I then called the Cabela's number to check if it was a legit call. It was indeed a legit call and there had been a fraudulent charge on my card this morning. They were quick to act and it is very much appreciated.
- Caller: Cabela's
- noanswerforuCan't help but wonder if these scammers are reading these reports here and on other sites like this one. If they are, then they know that we are reporting and they will try some other way to get to you.
- CautiousThe guys saying this number is legit are trying to lead you into the scam. I got a call from this number today and immediately called Cabelas Cistomer Service. This number does not belong to them and they do not ask you for your card number. Never give your card number over the phone.
- Caller: Fake Cabelas
- SandraReceived a call from this number, did not answer because it was an unknown number. No message left. Next day when we went to use our Cabelas card it was declined. I called the customer service number on my bill and I indeed had two fraudulent charges on my account, they had stopped the charges from going through and verified the last legitimate charges we had made. They cancelled our cards right away.
I would say, if you get a call from this number saying you have fraudulent charges, call the number on your card or bill to be safe. In this case it was true, but I'd rather call the number on my bill to be sure.- Caller: Cabelas
- RM Evans replies to SlimAgreed... always call TO the card, don't give out information when you are called. Fortunately, upon doing this, I learned that 800.853-6677 is a valid number for Cabela's fraud line. But, it's always more safe to push information to a known vendor, rather than allow an unknown pull it from you.
- Adam C.THIS IS NOT A SCAM NUMBER. This is legitimately Cabela's regarding charges on your Cabela's Club Card.

- CWG40| 2 repliesCommon 800 number scam.
The large number of shillers basically posting to tell everyone how "legit" this number is, is pretty strong evidence of a scam.
This number is most likely part of a larger fraud campaign targeting the customers of large-scale financial or commercial institutions.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real, is evidence of con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.
20 entries in this thread and I count 8 as shill posts.
At a 40 % shill rate, there should be no question that this is part of a scam. At least that's the way I see it based on my own research. I've seen percentages go even higher.
This scam is well documented. Simply google it out. Based on my research this scam has been going on since about 2008.
These type of calls follow a similar pattern. They all claim to be from groups like Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Fifth Third Bank, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc as well as Credit Unions. Or claim to be CC processors. Or “Fraud Detection”.
All with the same type of postings. All claiming there is something wrong with your card or that some questionable purchase has been made. Or something similar. They all ask for personal or personal financial information.
Just part of the shillers criminal MO.
I've noticed the shill posters often use the same turns of phrase. Same old, same old verbiage telling everyone how "legit" the calls are. Note the phrase "this is indeed". Constantly used by the scammers.
Personally I think the group or groups posting this shillage-spillage are located in either the US or Canada, or perhaps both. They may also be working with scammers outside of North America.
In any event , never give out any personal or financial information to anyone who cold calls you. If there are any problems with your card, always call the number on the back of the card or the official number on the monthly statement you receive.
Call history on 800notes for this type of scam, so far. (That I’ve been able to find.)

- JustVerified replies to CWG40| 1 replyJust got off the phone with Cabela's Club Visa Customer Service. This is a number to their Fraud Dept. and there were recent transactions they wanted to go over with me. You are full of shiot, sherlock, lol. Everyone else, just call the Customer Service number on the back of the card and verify if you don't want to use the number, :) .
