however, call the legitimate (should be on your bill) AT&T number directly.  we got the 4g Samsung S9 phones as free replacements.  they work just fine.

Rather than listen to public  discussions over what is correct and not correct, you should go to the website for AT&T and read what they say.

You can hope and pray that person stops back after over a month and answers you, or you can look at the post directly above your post and get the answer right from ATT.  Which do you think is the better solution?

Looks and sounds authentic, but really folks when have you ever gotten something free like this?  True they are ending support for earlier phones, but don’t give any personal info to activate if you actually receive any phones.  Call AT&T on a known number, NOT the one they gave in the text!

    Sketchy phone #
This phone number is definitely not related to AT&T. I made the mistake of calling it and it seemed super sketchy. I told the person it didn't sound like AT&T to me. He tried to keep me on the line, which only made it even more sketchy. I hung up and called AT&T to ask them. It's definitely a fraud!

    VERY SUSPICIOUS
I would recommend everyone ignore the letter and call only the number on your telephone bill.  You can go into a local retail store and handle things there.  If you're not using the old 3G phone, just have it closed.  I've been getting weird texts too from someone in California saying FREE AT&T MSG:  Hey thanks for paying your bill, click on this link as a reward-related to this. - Some girl's name.  It appears someone is playing around on the AT&T network.  Report all weird texts and ban unknown numbers.  Nothing seems to match up with the official AT&T website.  Yes, the 3G network is coming down next year but nobody should be sending you anything you don't want.  The phones can be tampered with.

This phone number doesn't have many of the hallmarks that come with a scam. Nothing is misspelled, for one, but even more, the email had all the information correct for me. Additionally, the email doesn't tell you that you need to take any action to receive the phone. It just says that they're going to send a new phone in the mail. Also, the number that the message is sent from is a number that is frequently used by AT&T to send me notifications. The only flag that exists is this phone number that is attached. I highly doubt it's a scam, and only even checked this site in case there was previous scammy experience.

Received one phone for MY number but not for hubby's number which doesnt make any sense I have the newer phone. Also checked website for exact models that will still work and models that will work with update. BOTH my current phone, an unlocked verizon Samsung Galaxy S21 AND my previous AT&T S9 are both models that are supposed to continue to work with no software update required. Why on earth would I switch to the crappy free phone when I already have 2 superior phones to choose from??? I received the following text today, 2/8/2022.... "AT&T Free msg: Be sure to activate the new cell phone we sent you so you can stay connected on our upgraded network. If you don't activate your new cell phone, we will automatically activate it in about 1 week. Once your new cell phone is activated, your current cell phone will only be able to call 911 and 611 until Feb 2022. If you need assistance, visit an AT&T store or call 800.880.8581.AT&T Free msg: Be sure to activate the new cell phone we sent you so you can stay connected on our upgraded network.
