Caller used name of “Karen Dawson.” I am privately selling my car on cars.com. She texted me and instructed me to provide my email to ask further questions about the car (which could have been simply asked over call or text.) She provided a link to a phishing scam where you input your VIN number and credit card information to steal money from you. The website is insightvin.com which was red flagged by CNN and the BBB already. I work in Fraud Prevention. Others beware.

Thank you for posting this.  I am selling a vehicle also and received a text that read:  Hi, I just saw your car ad.  Would you be so kind to send me your email address because I have some questions but can't talk right know, Thanks, Karen.

That same person just messaged me on my cell phone and asked for my email address. I did send it to her. Thank God I looked her number up and found this.

The message I received:
Hi, I just saw your car ad. Would you be so kind to send me your email address because I have some questions but can't talk right now. Thanks, Karen

Yup, I have a car listed on Cars.com and just received an identical text message from “Karen”. I won’t be replying

Wow, identical text response from ad on Cars.com from Karen Dawson.  "Hi, I just saw your car ad. Would you be so kind to send me your email address because I have some questions but can't talk right now. Thanks, Karen"  Asked for my email to which "she" sent link to a VIN search website which made my nervous.  I ultimately used "https://www.vehiclehistory.com/" to get a legit free VIN analysis.  I emailed her a copy. so we'll see how far her scam goes.  Thank you everyone!

I just had the same text about 5 mins ago.  I looked up the number and found this blog....Thank you, and i kindly (not so kindly) replied to the message.

Same thing, glad I looked up the phone number

Received the same message from Karen. Sounded like a scam, glad I looked it up.
