- gwasmer| 3 repliesWe've received many recorded messages from this debt collection company looking for a person we've never heard of, and we've had our number for 3.5 years. The message always states that by listening to the message I verify that I am indeed that person. The person being sought after is to call Amy Taylor at a 1-800 number that does not go through. Today is the 3rd time I have called to tell them to stop calling. ("Amy Taylor" has never been available.) Previously they said OK. Today they said the person must keep giving our number to them, and basically, too bad for you, we're going to keep calling!

- LaurenThis is a company that tries to collect debts that have long been a) either written off by the credit companies or b) settled by the credit companies. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY OR RESPOND. My husband has been incessantly getting letters and phone calls for YEARS over a small debt that was settling in 1994. His credit report is clean. This is a scam.

- Terrie replies to erndSame as other posters. We are an accounting firm and I have no clue who the person is they are calling for.
- hazelI continuously receive calls from these people, and everytime I answer, they hang up. If I don't answer, they leave a recorded message on my machine, saying that they are a debt collector and that I have a deliquent JCPenney's credit card account. I don't even have a JCPenney's credit card. VERY suspicious. I'm wondering if it is a scam company. Today, I called them back because they hung up on me, and they did not seem very professional at all. In fact, the person who answered was surprised I called back and continued to say that he didn't know why the caller would hang up on me. *shrug*

Here is a generic "form" letter, reword it to fit your needs.
Dear Debt Collector:
Pursuant to my rights under federal debt collection laws, I am requesting that you cease and desist communication with me, as well as my family and friends, in relation to this and all other alleged debts you claim I owe.
You are hereby notified that if you do not comply with this request, I will immediately file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the [your state here] Attorney General’s office. Civil and criminal claims will be pursued. - 100% of collectors will lie 100% of time replies to PumpkinAlso, never put your real signature on any letter to a collection agency. Always type it, or leave nothing.
- GEHFReceived a call from AACC 804-234-9056 this morning, 03/03/2009. Just didn't answer. We are on do not call list. Googled to try to find out who they are. Now I know. I would think that if a collection agency is trying to really get money, they would send a letter with an address. We don't have a reason for them to be calling us. We do have some medical bills of which we are paying in partial payments because we can't pay all of them in full, but have not been notified that these or any have been turned over to collections. I think this is scam, like others have been getting. Our home was broken into last month, and prior to this we weren't receiving calls from any collection agency. Had to close old account number, and open new one, get credit reports from all reporting agencies, etc, and put a fraud alert at the agencies in case someone started trying to get credit cards in our name, etc. Or make charges that we didn't make.....With all of this going on, this just seems suspicious to me to me. I won't be answering this call or sending them anything, and will work directly with the medical facilities when making payments. Received a call yesterday from a woman who said she was from one of the facilities, but caller ID showed Unkown Caller, Unknown Number. When tried to call number back later, it didn't connect anywhere. Now am suspicious about this caller and payment agreement we made. She told me call was being recorded, and stated she had to work within the hospital's guidelines as to what was an acceptable partial payment. She offered to give a 15% discount on the amount owed, which was less than $150.00, and I had just sent in a payment that morning in the mail to the hospital using their billing statement. She said because I had already sent in that payment, now they could not offer the 15% discount, and it would still have to be the full amount. She said they would be sending me monthly mailings (with return envelopes, I guess?) to send in the agreed amount until paid off. My husband called the hospital (St. David's North Austin Medical Center, and spoke with someone there who said that they do not do this to their patients, or this process. I am going to call the hospital again today and try to speak to someone again about this, and also will probably pay them directly at the hospital instead of mailing any payments. Something about this just stinks, and doesn't seem professional, not listing their caller ID info. when they call. It just seems too sneaky for a reputed hospital billing office. The bill is not that old.

- JDBThey're a scam "debt collector" from Charleston, SC. DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY! No matter if you pay them they will wait and try to collect again. If you send them the "settlement" amount they will still try to collect the full amount. They are scammers from the get go.
