- tired of it| 1 replyThis is Credit Collection agency. Target card as far as my call goes!! Anyways these idiots by these "already charged of debts" for pennies on the dollar.... It does you NO GOOD to pay these people. The debt has ALREADY been CHARGED OFF,, and they are only trying to make money. It will not help your credit, as they will not even tell your original creditor that you paid them... Just to let you know

- Sic of This| 1 replyThese ppl just don't take no for an answer. They have been calling my number for over a year, looking trying to collect on a debt my x husband had with his x wife over 20 years ago. I have told them again and again they are calling the wrong number, he is not here and they just keep calling. They insist this is the number they have on file and they can't take it out. I have had up to 12 calls in one day from them. Surely there is something that can be done.

- Donnybrook| 1 replyUnfortunately, the only thing we can do to stop these scumbags from harassing you every day is to write a cease and desist letter and send it cert. mail. They will not stop otherwise. I keep getting the same type of calls from this company because the guy who formerly had my phone number doesn't pay his bills. I told these people numreous times that they had the wrong guy but they won't stop. Start by immediately taking control of the coversation when they call you. Do not respond to their questions, angrily ask what agency they are calling from, and the address. Then ask their name and their supervisor's name. By law they must give you this information. Once you have it, inform them to stop calling you and tell them that a C&D letter is enroute. Hang up. If it's an auto-dialer you can get the address online or call the company back and demand the address. I actually take some enjoyment out of asking the harasser what kind of person takes a job like that. I tell them they do the work of the sleeziest of profession on the planet. The problem is, the next collection agency that buys the delinquent account can start calling you and you are back to square one. These people are the bottom feeders of society and they make used car salesmen and lawyers look like model citizens. Google a cease and desist lette and write one.

- ec replies to Sic of ThisAsset Acceptance is ranked by Bud Hibbs as one of the country's worst collection agencies. Here's some background information on these crooks and advice on dealing with them: http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/asset_acceptance_corp.htm
- ps replies to tired of ityou got that right! i got ripped over $4000 for helping one make their extortion money and it never changed my charged off account one iota, never showed it got paid off thru a rip off collection zombie, nothing. i will never set up anything with a collector again and all mine are expired sol now anyways so dealing with them would be stupid. if i could pay the damn things if i had a job i would pay it to the original creditor idiot scammers. they buy these things in portfolios like the stock market hoping to make 100% plus on profits for themselves. unscrupulous sharks!

- veritasThese guys are persistant. Payed off this debt to bank of america years ago through a different collection agency. Then about three years ago my wife got a call from a completely different one. Said that they could see that we had paid, but was never credited to the account. They said they were gonna take us to court. My wife set up a conference call with her, them and an attorney. They never called, and never contacted us again. Then two years ago a different agency sent us notice that they now had the account, said that they'd settle for half the amount. Sent them a letter explaining everything that had already happened. They bugged us for about six months, then AACC showed up. As far as I know, there's a statute of limitations on credit card debts. But they just think that they can bully people into paying them. The caller id used to say "AACC", now it just comes across as "Unknown name."

Bud Says Consumer Comments Below
Asset Acceptance Corp. (AAC) is a publicly traded company. (Nasdaq: AACC) They purchase old portfolios of mostly worthless charged-off accounts for pennies on the dollar. Once owned, they appear to inflate the value of the portfolio, send out dunning notices and try to collect at a ridiculous profit.
Don't be surprised if you notice the date of last activity on your credit report, as stated by AAC is WRONG! Deliberately changing the date of last activity is a way to scam consumers into thinking they are entitled to money they would not legally be allowed to collect.
This is standard procedure for them -- from "re-aging" the debt on the credit history, to suing on what is probably a statute of limitations claim, to reneging on a written promise.
Watch out for the mystery $50-$75 payment you didn't' make that magically revives the account. When pressed, they claim to do an investigation and "discover" that they made a "clerical error" and mistakenly posted someone else's payment to your account.
NOTHING this 'House of Cons' does should be believed or taken at face value. They have proven over and over they are liars and thieves!
Under federal law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) an account may ONLY stay on a credit report for seven years. One of the cons being used by Asset Acceptance is to claim you made a $50 payment, which would have re-started that clock. Unfortunately this is a 'bogus-claim' by AAC, is illegal and violates your rights.
Asset Acceptance Corp has earned the distinction of one of "AMERICA'S WORST COLLECTION AGENCIES". They lie, steal, cheat, misrepresent, file bogus claims, create phony documents and commit perjury in the court system JUST to increase their bottom line.
CAUTION: I recommend you NEVER disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your credit bureau files in error or need assistance in dealing with them, email the details w/your location. Assistance and referral to a consumer legal specialist may be available.- Caller: Asset Aceptance Corp

- not youThis is really getting old..you are calling my business for no reason.I know it can't me for me. The trick to all of this is to never give out your real numbers. So because I give out nothing but numbers that i know are not working...if you check the law now you have to have my permission to call me or my business that i own, after feb09 you have to have my permission to call me in writing which you will never have ..so the charges will be less filed against you if you stop calling. phone records are wonderful.

- Cincinnati Joe1/27/2009 5:50 PM Received a call from "Varina, VA 1-804-234-9058" (Caller ID) Male answered and asked for Cynthia S .After a lot of repartee to see who was going to take control of the conversation, he said his name was "Mike Rivers"(An obvious phony) and the company was Assets Acceptance Corp. I asked what number he had called. He said xxx-xxx-xxxx. I told him I had told them several times in the past that this was the wrong number and I was tired of getting the calls. He was argumentative until I said I was calling the FTC first thing in the morning and I was going to send them(Assets Acceptance Corp.) a certified letter. I also told him there was a law in Ohio for which I could sue in Small claims court for $500 for each call thereafter. He interrupted me to say he was recording the call. I told him GOOD and to make sure his supervisors listened to it. By that time I think a supervisor was listening in. He immediately changed his tone and said he was deleting the number. Then he said the number was deleted. We shall see. I can use that $500.00

- LizzieI keep getting these calls. The message is for my 45 year old son. The stupid message - "this is a message for ___, if you are not ___, do not continue to listen. By continuing to listen to this message you are admitting that you are ____." Interesting catch 22. My recommendation is to ignore the callse, easiest way is to just let them ring through to your answering service. You should all be aware of your state's Statute of Limitations. If that amount of time has passed, they can't touch you.
The advice of sending a Cease and Desist Letter is the best thing you can do. DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY VERBAL CONTACT! - JenI keep getting phone calls from the number 80-234-9058
They called earlier and when I asked who they were and what they wanted they hung up they were very rude. They would not tell me who they were.
This is happening all the time. - CJL54I keep receiving phone calls from a number of collection agencies for people who don't live at my address or use my phone number. I called this agency above, told them that none of those indivduals live at this number and they corrected the information in their system. I have no idea who these people are, but I would hate to be them and have their debts.
