    I got a 2 minute charge from this caller.  I believe it is someone trying to sell a security system, but my number is on a do not call list.  I'm sure this isn't the first call I have had from them, and I wish it would stop.

    Call all the time.  Message This call is for Beverly Edgell, we have been hired to do an investigation on Beverly Edgell.  This is a time sentitive matter and needs to be taken care of.  The last time I spoke to these folks they would not tell me what this was all about and refused to send me any paper work or tell why I was being investigated.  I want this to stop.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    It won't stop - the only thing you can do is report to the FTC, and your state's Attorney General.  Legitimate companies would send you paperwork - these are scammers.  Tell them you know they're scammers and you've reported them.  It may also be a good idea to put a fraud alert on your bank account and also contact the three credit agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) to do the same.  Other than that, ignore calls from numbers you don't know.  For the most part, legitimate callers will leave a message for you to respond to, giving their name, company and phone number and also a reason why they're calling.  Any time you have someone calling about a supposed debt, always demand a debt validation letter via MAIL (not fax or email).

    I have 28 messages on my cell phone from this number. They don't say anything just breathe and hang up. I don't know how they got my number because I don't give it out to anyone. I'm not sure how to stop these calls from coming in.

    If it's a smartphone you should be able to put it in your reject list. If not, assign the number something like zz and set the ring for that number as silent

    This number  804-938-9907 is the voicemail system for ATT mobile. If you get a call from this number it means you have a voicemail message. Nothing weird or scam or collections just your voicemail telling you you have a message on your phone. I knew the number was familiar. We don't get many voicemail calls on our cells.

    Invest in a call blocker.  If it is coming in on a mobile phone , check and see if there are any apps you can download to stop the calls.  No need for you to put up with this stuff if the technology is there to deal with it.

    Unwanted Text Messages

    Forward unwanted text messages to 7726 so that your carrier will block them. Some carriers do not accept that code and if that is the case then contact your carrier about how to block unwanted text messages. Also, never, ever click on a link in a text message as it will probably install something nasty to your phone that you really will not want to deal with and never, ever respond to one because lets them know that they have a good number with someone on the other end.  It will result in more calls and texts.
