I'm disgusted.  Got a call at my job from 805-248-7659 and they claimed they were from the Social Security Administration.  I called and the guy said he was from the SSA in Texas and I stated that this must be a scam and he got defensive with me and stated that "if you think this is a scam then just hang up, I don't have time to try to convince you that I am with the SSA" - I hung up.  I called the Federal Trade Commission and it is indeed a scam.  The FTC guy asked if he actually stated my name and I said no and it was obvious it was a robo call, plus he added that the government would contact me via mail which was probably certified as well.  Hope this helps.

Had 3 calls in one day (beginning @ 7:30 am) a week ago, a recording claiming to be from Social Security from (770 954-7094 from Georgia). Today, again @ 7:30 am, a call from 805-248-7659. Same recording as last week -- my Social Security account has been suspended due to suspected fraud or criminal activity (or some such nonsense). Must call back immediately -- the only difference in the recordings were the phone numbers to call back. Each call-back number matched what showed up on caller ID. Each recording was an American voice. When I called back last week, they answered "Social Security" -- with a decidedly foreign (Jamaica? India?) accent and were very rude when I asked them to stop calling my number. This morning, I called back and the phone was answered with just a "hello", but with the same foreign accent. When I requested that he stop calling my number, he said "I didn't call your number". At least he wasn't disparaging and nasty.
The ACTUAL Social Security Administration office phone number has a recording that indicates there have been a lot of fraudulent calls, alleging to be from Social Security.

As other writers have noted, this is the latest version of the Social Security threat scam going around.  A robodialled call and a threatening pre-recorded message threatening some sort of SSA action.  Call back and get hosed.
