Called and said I am being sued for fraud

My mom got a call from this number 2 days ago and said the exact same thing. Guy can hardly speak english but his name is Andrew??!  Made her get a "pre-paid" card to pay off her debt or the cops were going to arrest her for Fraud... Scam!

You should NEVER pay any caller who refuses to MAIL proof that you owe a debt and proof that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Legitimate companies do not have any problem mailing this legally required documentation, nor do they ask you to pay via pre-paid cards.  Refusal to mail proof of debt means that you owe the caller nothing, per the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).  Debt is civil, not criminal, so no, the cops would NOT be arresting anyone!  Report the callers to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.

Since you mention that the caller could hardly speak English, and yet had an anglicized name, it's obviously an off-shore scammer at work.  If he calls back, let him know the FBI is tracing all calls he makes to your mom.

I also just had a call from this number. I told him what I found on the internet about his number and he was very nasty and said I would have to deal with being arrested at my work place tomorrow and that I have 5 counts against me of fraud. Interestingly enough, when I called the main number he called me from, it said this "magic jack customer" was not available.

Me too., Scared me, but, luckily I kept them on the phone and figured out its a scam. These people make me sick. They will have their judgement day.
