5:30 am call from "IRS" from an officer "Nicky". Asks that I or my lawyer call back immediately.  Who calls at 5:30 in the morning and with a recording - not even a live person.  Gotta be a scam!  I've already filed and it's not tax day yet - I know I don't owe any money..

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Just received (Monday, 13Apr2015 at 11:35 CDT) the recorded call from "Nicky...", an agent at the IRS demanding that I call as soon as I get the message, etc.  before the IRS takes action.  Caller ID showed the same number as the recorded gave to call back.

I Just got a call form this number and called back. They told me I have frauded the IRS for $2800 and would be arrested for 5 days and owe 30,000 dollars, unless I wanted to resolve this TODAY. The guy transferred me to another guy (both has middle eastern accents) who told me I would be arrested unless I payed it in an hour. When I asked for verification that this was really the IRS they told me that their job was NOT to verify themselves, but to make sure I pay what I owe, or pay the price of ripping off my government. This is a terrible kind of harassment. I am going to call the real IRS and see if they are aware this is happening.

so after I discovered these guys are just complete a**holes trying to get your money, I called them agin and when they said IRS I said "this is not the number to the IRS"
they said "you don't know that "
and I said "I do, and this is not the number"
so the guy said F*%$ you B*tch and then called me an a** hole. I told him he did a great job with using his engrish to fraud people, and if that didn't work, insult them.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

    don't be fooled
This number is in GLENDALE CA. The IRS does NOT make Collection calls - as mentioned by CWG40 above.
Even if they did, they would NOT be calling from GLENDALE CA and definitely not via a CALL CENTER in INDIA!
Make note of this number and next time it calls,  DO NOT answer - let it ring. NEVER answer any calls from unknown numbers. A  city / state caller ID is ALWAYS a scam - never answer those calls.

Idiot scammers prefixed the phone number with: "11255". It makes me wonder if that is somehow related to how they long into the service that spoofs phone numbers for them.

IRS says they never call and ask for personal information over the phone.  They send letters.  So total fraud calls from this number.
