Here is a link to an actual Microsoft page with a warning about these scams:

Here is another link that describes the CLSID scam. The number that they give you is common to all Windows computers.

- Carol DeGrange| 1 replyam on the do-not-call list. How do they get away with these calls? I have 5 different telemarketing already today! I never answer the phone anymore. If anyone wants to talk to me, they will have to leave a message. Ugh.
- Caller: don't know - I won't answer.
- Slim replies to Carol DeGrange>> am on the do-not-call list. How do they get away with these calls? <<
Well, let me ask a question in return.
What do YOU think the DNC list is supposed to do?
No fair reading the rest of this post before you answer!
The DNC list does not automatically block calls. Instead, it provides a list of "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.
The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations, charities, companies with preexisting business relationships, and some other organizations (such as debt collectors), but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The first thing to do is buy a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information.
If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group. - PatThis number was block by my phone. Must be a scam call.
- NBThe gentleman calling was trying to tell me that I downloaded something malicious on my computer and that I have a worm on my windows computer which provided them my phone #........ Give me a break...... told the guy i don't use windows, and to take me off their call list (i own an iMac) How gullable am I supposed to be?

- Jay MorganA man who obviously missed some days of his English-As-A-Second-Language phoned me at 12:51 PST. I am a senior citizen and 90% home-bound due to illness; I would rather not be bothered by idiots who cannot speak English as it should be spoken on this Continent.
I read a few posts from others who have had their lives interrupted...the jacka** woke me from a nap which is NEVER a good thing to do...and I see here that other people whose phone numbers are on the Do Not Call Registry have also been annoyed by whoever these cretins are.
Today's annoyance is not the first call from whoever these people are and whatever it is they want...does it show that I do not give a damn who they are and what they want??...I have returned the call at least twice when I have been otherwise occupied and had no interest in talking with whoever it was who called.
I have left messages telling the cretinous callers to leave me alone. It seems that whoever listened to incoming call messages does not understand E-S-L any better than today's dumbie phoning me.
I am going to try to learn whether there is any way to block incoming calls from 832-426-2005; this is MY telephone and I should be able to block unwanted calls from unknown idiots.
If the callers paid my phone bills, I would understand that I might not have total choice as to who phones me. Since I pay my own bills, I wish to be left in peace!!- Caller: Un-recognized number
- JaiLo81Just got a phone call from a "not very Texas-accented man" informing me that my computer is downloading malicious files. [INSERT LAUGHTER HERE] When I finished laughing, I replied "sir, thank you for your concern but I do not have a computer."
[INSERT HIS LAUGHTER HERE. What an [***]!] "Ahh, you are lying to me." Now picture Apu from the Simpsons scolding you.
You'll laugh. Now I'm irritated. I explained to him I dismantled my compu-TOR a week ago and it hasn't a power source. So, if it's downloading malicious files from the Internet without a power source he's the one that needs to be worried. Now please get the hell off my phone so I can submit your phone number to the FBI, byeeeee.
Here's the kicker! If you search +1 (832) 426-2005 Houston, TX there are positive internet reviews. That is scary. These criminals are getting smarter and are creating false reviews on scam sites to make their work easier, if you will. They will call and notify you they noticed there is a virus on your computer and that for a small fortune they will remove it by having you download an actual malicious file that will lock you out of your computer and hold it for ransom until you pay another small fortune.- Caller: Microsoft Help Desk Allegedly
