- ScamVictim :(| 1 replyReceived a call today, from a guy saying he worked for Advance America Payday Loans.
He said I was approved for a loan up to $5k & asked how much I would be looking for. I told him $3k. He then said "okay, a loan of $3k would require monthly payments of $200 for the next 16 months.." Not too bad, borrow $3k & end up paying back $3200. Sounds good, eh? Red flag #1. No way a loan company would let you borrow $3k & only charge $200 worth of interest.
Then he proceeds to tell me that in order to secure the loan I would need to be able to show proof that I have the first $200 payment. & to do that I would need to put the money on a GreenDot MoneyPack card, then give him the 14 digit code on the back. He would then see that there is in fact $200 on the card & then would transfer the loan to me on the GreenDot MoneyPack card as well. He said I would get the $200 back, so idk if he would take the $$ off the card & then send it w/ the $3k or if he would just leave it on the card that I got & then I could reload a prepaid card w/ it. Either way, red flags #'s 2, 3 & 4. #2 - What loan company uses a MoneyPack card to make money transfers? #3 - What loan company requires an up front payment to receive a loan? #4 - It clearly states on the back of the MoneyPack card if someone asks for the 14 digit code, it's a scam & to NOT give out the information.
I asked him what the name of the website was for his company & he said it was AdvanceAmerica.net. So, while I'm on the phone w/ him I go check out the website to find that they only offer payday loans up to $500, red flag #5. I then asked him how I got approved for a loan of up to $5k when it clearly states that his company only offers loans up to $500. He then tells me I must have went to the wrong site, & gives me the address again. I told him that was the site that I was on & he got quiet for a second or two, red flag #6.
By now I'm laughing bcuz it's obvious this guy is a scammer. Then I asked when I applied for this loan & he seemed confused by my question. I asked it again & he said hold on let me pull up your info, he gets back on the line & says July 21, 2013. I told him that wasn't true. He says okay hold on let me double check that, comes back on the line & said he was mistaken & I applied on October 20, 2013. I then told him that was not true either bcuz I didn't begin trying for loans until after the first of this year. Red flag #7.
I then ask how long he's been a scammer & how much money he's made stealing from others. He then tells me he's going to transfer my phone to the FBI & he put me on hold. Then I obviously hung up.
That phone call was at 1:11pm & lasted for 17 mins. Since then, I have received 4 additional calls; 3 from a man & 1 from a woman. Mind you the 3 calls from the guys all sounded like the same person, just disguising their voice. The last call, at 3:30, I talked to him & his voice changed, went from being higher pitched to a lower deeper voice. I asked why it changed & he said idk what you're talking about. Then starts laughing & asks me to be his girlfriend. I say no, obviously, & he asks why he should send me money if I won't be his girlfriend. I said he didn't have to & he said well okay have a great day & hung up. Also, in all these different calls, the name of the company changed 3 times, went from Advance America to Cash Advance USA to America PayDay Loans. He has called 2 more times & he's gotten the F U button..lol.
I'm amazed at the audacity of these people. I did get scammed for $500 from another guy, said his name was Kevin Beary calling from a 407 area code saying he worked for Cash Advance USA which is how I knew what questions to ask with this phone call. An actual loan company will not ask you to pay anything up front to receive your loan & they will definitely NOT ask you to put money on a reloadable card. Unfortunately I didn't know that the first time, but I do now. & because of that I want to warn others. I'm not sure who will see this but if I can prevent it from happening to other people then I did what I wanted to do. Just wish I could get my $500 back, but I know that won't happen.
So people beware, there are evil people out there trying to scam innocent people, like myself, every day. & there are lots of different scams - the loan scam, the lottery scam, the grant scam & many others. I've been a victim of the loan scam, but have caught people trying to scam me the other ways (lottery, grant, taxes, etc). So just be careful. These people can buy your information then contact you promising lots of money & all they want to do is take yours. And unfortunately, they can be successful.- Caller: Advance America, Cash Advance USA & America PayDay Loans

- SrChiefChetThe people have been calling me for months now. When they get it in their head to target me it's usually the guy with the foreign accent. I got the girl once. I never let the get past hello before I bust a move and start yelling at them. Referring this to the FCC and FTYC, and the Attorney General and the US District Attorney is a good place to start. Puting the on the list is good too.
