They called my 85 year old mother in a different state and told her I was going to be sued for an unnamed outstanding bill from over 30 years ago. When she told them she couldn't pay it, they insisted that she call me to have me pay the debt before a lawsuit was filed.

Called and left a vague message about a fax they received about me and I would need to call to give more info or they were coming to my home/place of employment the next day. Called my sister and left a message “solely intended” for me. Left a file number to refer to.

My roommate just received a call from this number too. They told her that she owes a debt from 10 years ago that she doesn't even remember. They told her that a subpoena would be delivered unless she paid that day. So I looked up the 'Statute of Limitations' (which is the amount of time that a creditor or collector can threaten to use the court system to collect a debt) here in Tennessee and it is 6 years. These people are frauds.

Was the file number something like #CV106011 ?

If you were going to be served, you wouldn't be called in advance.
