called me today, no voicemail

This is NOT a real American Express number. The lady represented herself as AmEx and then asked me to "confirm" some information so I could use my benefits. I did not give her any personal information but my card number was stollen a week or so later...I am not positive that the call and the fraudulent purchases are connected, but I believe them to be. If you call the number back it states it is AmEx but says the office hours start at 2pm and then hangs up on you. I reported them to AmEx's spoof team.

Whether this is Amex or not, it is always best to call the number on your card to confirm any problems.  Some banks and CC companies hire third party security firms to deal with fraud notification so in some cases the CID doesn't correspond to the company.  Doesn't matter.  ALWAYS call the number on your CC or bank card.  They can always transfer you to a third party if necessary.  Read here:

It’s a real Amex number. I literally called the number on the back of my card and they told me it’s a real Amex number and it’s a team to call and ask about your Amex experience. They connected me and the auto message said the same thing “open at 2pm”. Call the back of your card and find out yourself

Whether this is or is not a real AmEx number is immaterial since scammers frequently spoof legitimate phone numbers. Never trust a random caller to be who they claim.
