I keep getting the same number calling the past few days, would really like to know who is calling me?

This number just called me and she said it was PRA Group they are a debt collector.

Definitely debt collector of some kind. Called asking to speak to someone (not me) about an 'Urgent personal matter' then when I told them they had the wrong number, asked if I knew the person or anyway to get in touch with them and could they leave a file number with me. Ummm. No.

It is from a fraudster trying to recover debts that are older than 7 years old. The name is Progressive Recovery Agency. They keep calling for some months and then stop. Block them. Period.

PRA Group are a debt recovery company that buys debt over 10 years old and tries to collect.  They are known to keep persisting for debt regardless if it was a correct debt or belongs to someone else.  Even if paid off.  Most people with long forgotten debt or even its been paid off - no longer have the records after 7 years.  So proving they are wrong is literally impossible.  http://www.portfoliorecovery.com/  - Problem is they expect you to be able to prove that something 10+ years old is not a valid debt or paid off.  Its impossible to do this.  This happened to me several years ago and they are again calling.  I talked to a lawyer and its difficult to get them to stop.  Just don't answer the phone.

this is exactly why I say to ask have your local member of parliament to look into this ,put a stop to this illegal collections.
this kind of dirt that no one can prove is as bad as steeling from a child or an elderly couple. please put a permanent stop to this kind of theft.....................

They keep on calling and calling, and calling. they never leave a message, but today I decided to answer the phone. They are trying to collect a debt from 7 years ago which was about $ 1000.00 and now they want over $ 6000.00. I tried to explain to them about the statue of limitations, but it did not work as they said.."We will keep calling until you pay", and I said "Well I guess we will become great phone friends over the next couple of years". She got really pissed off and hung up on me. The moral of the story is don't give these bottom feeders one red cent, because if you do, the clock resets and they can actually go after you in small claims court. They buy the debt for about .10 on the dollar hoping that they at least get half of what's owed, and also remember all debt comes off your credit file after 6 years from the date of last activity.

You don't have to respond to them there is nothing legally they can do just ignore their calls.
You don't need to prove anything to anyone.  There is a time limit and if the original debt holder never took you to court before that time limit expired then anyone who obtains that after wards is SOL (shyt out of luck)  No one can force you to pay anything and your not obligated to contact them back or to even speak to them.
It is the law that they are not allowed to harass you if they call your employer friends or family or even obtain your telephone number which was unlisted not public knowledge they can be sued.
Let their call go to answering machine and don't bother worrying about it.  They have no legal grounds after a statue of limitaions has expired!

Ignore these calls, they will go away or they find another company to load it off on. Unfortunately it will keep going and going even if you made peace with the original debt

This number calls me daily. I don't answer. It is a collection agency trying to collect from someone I don't know. I'd say they didn't believe me when I answered their first call.

They called and I blocked their number. Also disabled voice messages so they can't even leave a message. Problem solved. Easy as 1,2,3.

Me too. They say I owe $21,000 from 2003. Funny thing is the credit limit was $5000. Even funnier is my debt was negotiated and paid long ago through credit counselling. Since this no longer affects my credit score I ignore these calls and their idle threats.

This number calls several times a day. However I don't usually answer. After three calls today alone, I decided to answer. The caller immediately hung up. Won't be answering again .

They may come up as a legit company.. but when I offered to show up at their offices with my attorney to discuss the fake debt  (I was  living out of the country when this "Debt" was incurred 3000 kms away with a company I have never dealt with) they told me that was impossible as they dont allow the public in and when I insisted they hung up on me... DO NOT EVER give out or even confirm info with these criminals.

They're calling me about money owed 20 years ago.   My debt was settled with a lawyer when me and my Ex separated 20 years ago.   I just say the magic words "Cease and Decist"  and they don't bother to call again.   There is an actual form letter of Cease and Decist to send to these people, but it only works until they sell their "very aged" list to another scammer.
