Same scammer everyone else received a call from.  Said they were from the IRS.  Probably the same scammer that claimed to be from the US Treasury some months ago.  DO NOT give out any info to them.  Just let them know that you know they are scammers.  I know it always sounds scary when you hear the words "IRS", "criminal" and "tax evasion"  but don't fear.  These are just scare tactics to try to extort money from you.  I don't understand why they can't catch these guys already.  Can't they trace the phone number and catch up with these guys already.  They should be locked up for a very long time as I'm sure everyone here would agree!!!

Hi- I got the same thing from 844-319-2072 about tax evasion etc.. I have been getting these types of calls for four years now.  I tried to call one back but the number is never any good. I answered one time for fun and I told them to send me something in the mail and I gave my word I would address it. Nothing ever came. One time they said they were going to serve papers and I waited and nothing ever happens. You would think people(losers) would have better things to do with their time. I mean come on; 4 years!  What a waste of human being.  I have never done anything wrong and I do not have any money for tax evasion.  My message to the losers who call:" get a real job [***]"!

Rec'd call 28 Feb 2018 (844-319-2072 left msg saying that I was being charged $1299.00 for PC coverage and if I didn't want it to call immediately to cancel.  Called number and the individual that answered sounded just like the one who took my call in regards to my PC being prevented from working because of a virus (said it was from Windows ten or Windows edge). Well anyway, I asked the individual the name of the organization that was allegedly charging me this amount and also, which account he was charging it to (did mention Apple in there)  Why them I don't know.  He said he would cancel but 1, he didn't ask my name, 2, didn't tell me the actual name of the company and 3, didn't tell me what account but all of a sudden the line went dead as he had hung up.  Guess I pressed him too hard for information he didn't want to give out.  This could have been a number used last year to tell me I was going to be sued by the IRS if I didn't call right away.

They switch numbers all the time so guess it would be hard for them to catch them by tracing the call.

VERY SUSPICIOUS >> call from 844-319-2072 with automated message to call back due to extensive charge that was going to be made for software.  I called back and the person who answered wanted me to tell him what type of notification I got and I said I did not know as I was just calling the number back. Then he wanted my name so he could check on it. I would not give him my name since he could/would not give me any information other than I was going to be charged in excess of $1,000 and he could give me a refund of $745.  None of this was making any sense. When I asked what software it was he wanted me to check something on my computer, I told him it was off.  He said to restart it and he would show me. I asked again the name of the software and he then said he would call me back on a better line so he could help me.  He hung up and has not called back.  VERY SUSPICIOUS

Got a call back from them via 239-494-3418 and again when asked specific questions there was no specific & legitimate answers.  My refund was now $250. Wanted me to go to a website and they would then connect me with a refund distribution department. I said until I got answers to my specific questions (refund for what specific software, speak to a manager/supervisor, when was it purchased...) I would not be visiting any website and for sure not give any personal financial information.  The man became very irate and said that I was not letting him answer and I was asking to many questions that did not matter.  He raised his voice and said that I wasted his time and I was a F*&#@ing idiot and went on a cursed filled rant then hung up.

Heavily accented caller (first red flag) called from this number telling me that I was due a refund for an Anti-Virus software I purchased from a company that is now closing.  Would not tell me what company or what AV software at first. (red flag #2). This refund offer was only good during this phone call (imagine that! and final red flag)  Caller wanted me to hand over access to my computer (ha ha ha) so he could "assist in filling out refund form".  When I pushed for a name, company or software, he told me MacAfee.  I've neither used nor purchased this software ever.  I expressed my annoyance at this call and his assumption that I lacked the necessary intelligence to see through his blatantly obvious scam and suggested a task he may perform.  He ended the call abruptly.

I have seen posters chastise other posters for their handling of these criminal calls.  I have no qualms in being rude or even obscene with these callers.  They are not "poor individuals who do not know better".  They are not marginalized members of their society.  They are not misinformed, unaware, or pawns in a scheme.  They know exactly what they are doing, who they are doing it to, and what they expect out of it.  They are criminals, opportunistic fraudsters and common thieves.  The do not deserve my good nature or polite reparte.

They said I bought computer maintenance insurance and the company is going out of business, so they want my information to send me a refund!  I can't believe they are running 2 scams from the same phone number (IRS scam also).

Oh, it's just the good old multi-scam phone number. Scammers love these. I personally think they have a dart board with various scams on it and every time they call, they toss a dart to decide which scam they're calling with.

Not irs scam this time for me. It's the computer virus software scam. Recording I'm entitled to a refund of my computer virus protection service since the company is closing down. That's a twist. Gee isn't nice they would give me my money back on a service that I don't have as I know my legitimate protection service isn't shutting down. Hate this people for scamming the innocent.

    Q&A
I got a call from the same number 844-319-2072, indicating that we'd paid for computer service last year and the company was closing and they had a refund for us. I hung up. We know who handles our computer service and it's not some lady with an Indian accent calling me from an unfamiliar number.
