I received an aggressive call from someone with a local number who then told me to settle the claim at the above number.  I actually called that number (sigh) and was told that I took out a payday loan 9 months ago (no, I didn't).  They wanted me to settle now...  I, of course, refused but they were very convincing.  They continue to call me at work and on my cell phone.  They even called my company to tell them about it.  This is ridiculous, but I don't know how to get it to stop.

Those scammers are slime.  From reading helping other users on this site, these phony debt scammers can be a problem.  In general, ignoring and blocking the calls can work, but they sometimes will keep harassing family and work numbers.  In that case, you might call their bluff by asking for proof of the debt, as per law and regs.   Reporting calls to your local DA can help sometimes, but the trick to that is you need to find out exactly who is calling, and where from, and the more you dig for that info, often the quicker they will stop.  I don't want to layout exact tips for you (there are some good tricks you can find with a web search) since scammers come to this site too, and I want your game plan to be hidden.

The scammers have the advantage of staying hidden, and hitting your family and work numbers.  They will keep it up for a while so long as they feel they can make you crack.  When they know you are NOT cracking, then they move on.  Be strong, you can beat them!
