- Dontfallforscammers| 1 reply"John" is claiming to be from the prosecutor's office. He had the nerve to call me at work in addition to my cell phone and let me know that I could expect papers to be served. He also shared this with our admin. I have no freaking clue what this is about, my credit report is clean and all my payments are current. I reported this phone number to the my State Attorney General's office and the FCC https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us. I'm certain it is illegal to pose as a government official or employee. I'm sure they manage to fool some unaware people so if you get a call from them, report them.

- Stopcallingme! replies to DontfallforscammersI got this same call. Once last week, and again on yesterday. The call comes through as private, but when I asked who to call to verify what they were telling me, they gave me 844-421-6867, which I think is their number. The first time she said she needed my address to drop off papers for my signature. Yesterday morning a different person called and left a voicemail which included my address and said if they didn't hear from me in 24 hours. They would show up at my house! I'm about to report it now.
- NOT A CROOK replies to DontfallforscammersThese are typical dead beats that don't pay their bills and cause the rest of us to pay higher prices for goods and services that we pay for. They should all quit complaining about the phone calls they're getting and pay their bills. Have a day!!!
- GenemomMy husband got a call saying he was a contact number for my daughter in law'school estranged father. They gave a file # and this phone# to call. The reallystrange thing is they called his business cell #. Thing is we have never met this guy.

- AngryI received a call from a private number looking for my aunt saying there was a complaint against her and asking for me to verify her address. I didn't answer the call it went to voicemail and this was the number that was given to me to call back as well as a case file number. I believe it is a scam and gave my aunt the information given me in the voicemail.

- Call type: Survey
- BigA replies to annoyed| 1 replyI don't know why you classified this as a survey, it is a debt collection scam.
This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Please note that process servers do not ever call ahead. That way you can’t dodge them.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
