- Lucy| 4 repliesThis number was printed as the contact number for JP Morgan Chase & Co. Chase Bank USA, NA Attn Abandoned Property Manager PO Box 659750 San Antonio, TX 78265-9790. The letter and accompanying document were copies on copy paper, not true letterhead. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM.
- EngineerReceived a formal looking letter (same as Lucy) claiming they have money they owe me. Contacted Chase - no record of any such letter or claimed transaction. Not pursuing it any further...
- Caller: JP Morgan Chase & Co.
- Alert Customer / Animal-Lover| 2 repliesActually I cannot say whether I've received calls from that number -- I get so many that I don't have time to report them anymore, must simply ignore all. Would love to learn how to block unfamiliar incoming calls. BUT our household received a letter from an "Abandoned Property Team" with so-called address in "San Antonio, TX", and we saw through this immediately. Unfortunately, writing to abuse@chase.com is not helpful as they handle suspicious contacts via e-mail, text message, or phone call, but not paper USPS mail. I am sending a photocopy of the crazy letter to JP Morgan Chase inquiries address to ask them to confirm that this is a scam and to ask them to publicize the dangers of this mailing. Thanks to others out there for corroborating that this really is a dangerous scam. Don't respond to the "Abandoned Property" letter -- but I hope that Chase can advise further, in case there is a safety breach (somebody out there with access to too much personal information). BTW, I got to this page by searching ("Googling" etc) the fake San Antonio address for the fake "Abandoned Property Team".
- Caller: Imposter of JP Morgan Chase (sent USPS letter)
- M.S. replies to Alert Customer / Animal-Lover| 1 replyI also got just such a letter recently. I called Chase, and they looked up the date and amount of check listed in the letter (from 3 years ago). They found that, indeed, I had been issued a refund for that amount when trying to redeem points on my card, and that the transaction never went through. So, they said it was legit and to send in the form.
- M.S.| 1 replyP.S., I called Chase at their main phone number, not the one listed on the form.
- Amy replies to M.S.I tried calling numerous Chase numbers and none of them know anything about a letter sent to me to reissue a check. If you are saying that it's a real letter, please tell me what number you called to verify. I would never call the number that they sent on the letter -- if it's a scam, that would be just playing into the scam.
- No Fool| 2 repliesI received a letter today, Aug 31, 2015. These guys are good. They even sent it certified. It was dated July 7 and I needed to reply by Aug. 7. I called the main chase number not the one in the letter. Chase told me that the number is not one of theirs, and that it was a scam. Of course it is. If Chase sends me a check, and I don't cash it, Chase keeps their money. It's not going to go to the State as abandoned property. How is the State going to know about the check, and then force Chase to give the State the money? I believe M.S. works for the scammers.
- TBNJ01 replies to No Fool| 1 replyWow, got the identical letter and dates via certified mail.
Since it had my full account number etc, I initially thought it was legit. However, I was curious about the 844 number, and when I called it actually sounded like a well spoken educated female with neutral American accent. The chip off was when they started asking for personal information, so I asked them to identify themselves, and they suggested that I call into Chase, and ask for the Recon Dept. I called Chase and they had no idea about this letter or anything about a recon department. So why did my google search and found this, boy does that feel good. I'm glad I've learned to think on my toes and watch out for these [***].... - Why replies to TBNJ01you should report it to the post office inspectors.
- G.M.I just received this letter. In my case it appears to be legit. I called Chase at the number on the back of my current card, not the number on the letter. Chase was very helpful with tracking this back to a point redemption on an old account that I don't have anymore. They are reviewing this further, and if everything checks out, sending me a new check.
- Caller: J.P Morgan Chase
- JoI received the same letter, I never had a Chase acct other than a CC acct. I contacted the actual 800 number for customer service and without knowing my CC number, as this would have been 4 years ago, they looked through all my transactions from 2012 and verified they had not sent the letter. They are extremely helpful and you may want to try that route.
- Irene Schaffer| 1 replyReceived a certified letter with this phone number on the letter head stating I have unclaimed funds and I never had an account with them, so I would just like to have them removed so they do not try reaching out to me by phone.
- Caller: JP Morgan Chase
- BigA replies to Irene SchafferAnd you truly believe that by posting here that can be accomplished?
- Private Investiagtor| 1 replySCAM: COPY LETTER AND SEND TO CA CONTROLLERS OFFICE EOInquiry@sco.ca.gov, as instructed by the CA Controllers office at www.sco.ca.gov/upd_msg.html, scroll down to Fraud Alert. The letter I received was identical as the official letter on the CA State Controller's office. My letter said Chase Bank was holding a refund but when I did a phone number reverse search on www.Whitepages.com the results showed a mobile number and 3 individuals Mark A Crider, Geoff Ryder, Miguelangel Matos. Additionally, the zip code within the letter they sent was incorrect for that address and did not include the zip+4.
- Private Investiagtor replies to Private InvestiagtorAs an update, I sent an email to the controller's office and they replied within 2 days. The letter I received is not a scam. If you receive a letter like this, simply go to the controller's website and do a search on your name and and city as it appears on your letter on their website https://ucpi.sco.ca.gov/ucp/Default.aspx. If it is legit, you will find that the sender reported it and you are in the system or if it's not, it won't be there.
Nice job, CA State Controller's Office! Hope this helps you guys! - JohnYesterday I received a letter from JPMorgan Chase referring to an old check they issued several years ago (point redemption award) that was not cashed. I had to follow the instructions mentioned in the letter, and then mail or fax a filled form back to Chase to retrieve the money. I called the number on my credit card to verify the number mentioned in the letter. It took them half an hour (!) to confirm the letter was indeed sent to me, they also confirmed the old check was issued but never cashed by me (correct date, correct amount etc), Finally, they confirmed I need to call the number 844-618--0991 that appears in the letter in case of questions etc. I was very skeptical after reading many reviews here that were claiming "SCAM" for this number. THIS IS NOT SCAM. It is in fact an internal Chase number (Chase reconciliation number) confirmed TWICE by the Chase representatives. Also, just by reading the reviews, THIS NUMBER EXISTS FOR A LONG TIME TO BE A SCAM. You can always call Chase 800 number on your card to confirm the number is in fact Chase number.

CALL THE NUMBER ON YOUR BANK STATEMENT - lisa replies to LucyIn my case- this WAS legit!
I received a similar 'printed letterhead' letter, and I called my Chase branch after reading this, and they connected me with their 'recon' division. The Chase banker stayed on the line. They asked only for the account number and check number on my form, and they confirmed my name. With this information, they confirmed that they did indeed owe me $100! (Yay!)
I asked if there was a different number I could post, and the woman said that 844-618-0991 is indeed their number, so that really is the best one to call. - LALI received a letter from Chase giving this number as a contact, I was never called. The letter was regarding an account I had with them years ago. A refund check had been issues in 2015 that had not been cashed. They are giving me an opportunity to claim the funds before they are escheated to the State. The letter was on basic copy paper, and no color logo. After reading the above reviews, I found and called the general customer service line for Chase. After two calls (don't call on a weekend) and being transferred, I was able to speak with someone who confirmed the letter was legit. The check is going to be re-issued. I received basic confirmation when I called on the weekend, but received more specific info when I called during normal business hours. If you receive a letter like I did - don't dismiss it! Do your research, which may take a couple of phone calls. I had no reason to think I was due anything, but it was well worth my time and efforts to follow-up!
