woman called my wife's cousin looking for me.  did not leave her name or company name only phone number, asking him to call back.  MY wife don't even talk to the cousin.  When I called the number back Michael Lawerence answered said that he is with DVR and says he don't know how they would have gotten his number (I don't even have his number)

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them so that they can scare that person into paying extortion money.  They will usually also state information that would be illegal for a real debt collector to state to department and tell them that you are a deadbeat who does not pay their bills.  They often call people that have never even been a third party such as that you are being sued, that you owe money to someone, etc. They threaten that if you do not call them back, they will contact your HR associated with you because they get erroneous information off the internet.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

BS call..."SHIRL GLOVER" sounded like a man, called looking for my father. Took the message and I asked what it was in reference to and they of course could not tell me but can blow my phone up! I told him or her to remove my number. 844-793-0238 ext 127

received call from  414-348-3158, women (no name or company provided) said she was calling in regards to my fiancé but no other information was provided.   Not calling back after reading all these messages.

Male voice called, left message for Stephanie. I’m not Stephanie. Stating looking for Jerry fisher. Left no company name. I’ve had this # for 13+ years. I’m not calling them back but I am blocking the #.

Number called from was a local number, but told to call back 844-793-0238

Same message but when I called the number back it said it was a government agency.

Called & left a message saying it was in regards to & then used my mother’s name. Didn’t call back just checked online & everybody says it’s a scam call. Blocked the number!

I had a call and a woman said, “There is an arrest order for your husband in your county. He will be arrested today if he doesn’t pay for an illegal action”! Asked her what law did he break and she mumbled it was a hot check from years ago. Told her we don’t write bad checks and asked for the name of the company who got this hot check. She was trying to come up with something when  I started laughing.  Called her some not nice
names. She hung up.
Got a call from the “IRS” who just left a number for me to call back. When I did it was a voice mail saying I didn’t have enough money in my account for the call and wanted my bank account number.

Person called from +14198273154. Stating her name is Rhonda from Snably (spelling?) with drv, and to call back at 844-793-0238

Called from a local number, and left this message - “Hello my name is notified _⁠_ reaching out to you from VRB please return the business card to 844-793-0238…”
I do not recognize the company. May be a scam.

Called and left a voicemail. Had my full name and said it was regarding my dad & used his full name too. I immediately knew it was a scam. Didn’t leave their own name or a company name at all.

THIS IS A SCAM, They said they were from a recovery service,  it was a man calling that left a womans name Cheryl at ext. 127 looking for money

called my daughter from dvr said to have me call.  i already knew it was a scam.

Definitely some kind of bill collector and ended that call after I requested a cease and desist, that they any information they obtained was to collect a debt. Ext 122 Michael Lawrence.

Definitely a scam. No company, not professional, and sounds like they are google searching people to get their info and names of family members to sound like they know something about you. Don’t buy it.

Called from number with same area code and said it was an attempt to collect a debt.  When I inquired about a letter of validation regarding debt because I had no recall of this debt she said she could send that out and would contact me again in 14 days and would be given no further time to resolve the debt and when I told her I had 30 days to dispute she hung up.  I called back and got a male this time and said I was confirming that A validation letter was being sent and he said yes she requested it be sent.  Didn’t ask for address or anything and hung up.  Scam!

Called acting like she had business with me but, I don’t know them at all.
