I have received 5 calls from this number today. They never leave a message and the calls are 2 hours apart.

We receive multiple calls a day from this number (847-915-4944) and whoever is making the call just hangs up when we answer.  We have reported this to our local police department and will make a formal harrassment claim if necessary.

I received a missed call from this number with no ensuing message

I received two calls from this number today, no voice mail.

I get multiple calls a day with no voice mail ever left and when you call back there is no identifying information.

This number started ringing our phone yesterday, and again today.  Both days it has called 3 times, each call 3 hours (appx.) apart.  Besides the fact that we are on the "Do Not Call" registry; not even one attempt was made to leave a message, so I don't believe it is coming from a telemarketer at all.  It's most likely that the calls are coming from an unscrupulous collections agent.  

A perfunctory Google-search has revealed that the number itself is owned by Broadwing Communications, LLC - Algonquin, IL.; but in the same manner that AT&T leases their numbers to us, that is probably also the case with this number.  I just called my local PD, but they advised that unless I had spoken to someone and advised them NOT to call back, there was no crime committed.

How long did it take for them to "Cease and Desist"?

Oh Lord!  First it was phishing, spy-bots and hacking on the internet.  If your information is correct (which I have NO reason to doubt); now there are telephones that utilize software capable of "switching Caller IDs" based on the type of number it is calling!!!
