Transcript of Message: "Hello. My name is Cathy Johnson. This important message is intended for "Name of person requested". I have a fax order delivery scheduled for "Name of person requested". We have made several attempts to reach you. We will make one final attempt to reach you at your place of employment and/or residence regarding proper delivery of your documents. Scam Suspicion:
    1. Any legitimate business should have no issue identifying what business they are calling from, including debt collectors.
    2. Any legitimate Government office (IRS, Social Security, etc) will not call you directly. They will send letters/documents through US mail.
    3. Any legitimate bill collector must send you a written notice in the mail within 7 business days of first contact.
    4. Any legitimate lawyers office will email you documents.
    5. Any documents that are supposedly being sent court proceedings are not faxed unless you have already made arrangements of this delivery method (Same goes for emailing documents). They will be delivered by a process server. Process servers do NOT call before hand.
    6. You will not be prosecuted for making a legitimate caller wait for 1-2 weeks for payment or to schedule payments until after documents are received in the mail. If a bill collector does try to sue without sending you legitimate documents, research "discovery phase of court proceedings" for bill collections and/or get an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney then contact your Attorney General's office for assistance.

At the advice of my Attorney Generals office:
    1. Do not answer calls from numbers you do not know. Legitimate callers will leave a message if they need to get in touch with you.

    If you do answer:
    1. NEVER pay to a company that calls you first stating you owe money without researching to make sure you legitimately do owe them money. Legitimate companies will give you time to confirm if needed. Nefarious bill collectors and scammers will try to use scare tactics to get you to pay up immediately including stating they will take you to court and you'll spend time in jail, they will garnish wages, reposes your assets, freeze your accounts, and put a lean on your home. The one I hear most often is you have to pay something now to hold out on court proceedings which is a lie.
    2. Do not confirm any identifiable information over the phone, even something as simple and easily accessible as your address. Request they send you a letter or any pertinent documents through mail if they have legitimate business with you. Stand firm on this no matter what. This is where some will get really nasty. If they do get nasty, just hang up. If they accuse you of refusing to pay because of this then let them know you are refusing to pay as they have provided you no information that confirms you owe them anything. Burden of proof lies with the collection agency that is trying to collect. If it does go to court, it can be refuted during the discovery phase of the proceedings.
    3. Do not provide any credit card, debit card, or banking information over the phone including account number,  routing numbers or CVC numbers until you have confirmed that company is legitimate and has legitimate business with you.
    4. If they do send you documents in the mail, research the company and look for any bad reviews. Also, contact your Attorney General's office if you need additional assistance on what you should do.
    5. If you get a call that seems it is a recorded call that ask questions like "Can you hear me?", do not answer Yes to any questions. Simply hang up.

This is the fake process server scam. Real process servers don't call in advance. Block and ignore such calls if you can.
