Caller ID shows "800 Service" for this number. They call several times a day and almost never leave a message. However, I'm getting that same "800 Service" ID for several different numbers and area codes, most are toll free numbers, but not all.
Most of these "800 Service" calls are Spam or Phishing/Scam calls but a few may not be.
On 2 occasions over the last year, I picked up, to see who this 800 Service was and got a recorded message telling me to call another number and gave a contact name. That raised the Spam Red Flags.
On one occasion they left a message but it was just some clicking with some tape hissing sound, probably a corrupted message.
On 2 other occasions, one last year and on one a year or 2 earlier, that 800 Service ID left real messages and turned out to be a collection agency looking for my ex-wife that split over 25 years ago. I called them back and found that this last agency has been trying to contact her for about a year. Googling her name, my name came up as her spouse or possible spouse (with my phone number) and called me. After telling them we have been divorced, over 25 years now and I haven't spoken to that woman since the divorce in 1992, they told me that they would correct their information and I would not hear from them again. After hearing that another agency had contacted me over her, told me I might want to get the info showing me as her spouse or possible spouse scrubbed from Google or I could get calls from other agencies. But of course they have no idea on how to accomplish that and at this point I haven't been able to find a way to do that either.
I've posted all this information because, this caller ID listed as "800 Service" has been showing with different phone numbers numbers and area codes. None have listed an 800 number so far that they have been calling from. Most turn out to be a toll free type number starting with an Area Code and is probably due to all the phones and cell phones, competing with our limited and outdated 10 digit phone numbering system. Most of these are Scam, Phishing, Cold Sales calls, Political or whatever type calls out there, trying to get at your hard earned money. But I have found that a few numbers with that "800 Service" Caller ID showing are legitimate companies. (Even if they are collection agencies)
Just be advised of this and be very careful about answering calls from numbers or Id's you do not know. There have been recent reports of the 2017 "Can You Hear Me" Scam again and that it is growing.
The Scammer is trying to get you to say "Yes" and that response of "yes" is recorded and subsequently used to make unauthorized purchases in your name. They started out asking "Can you hear me" but now they are asking all kinds of questions, just to record you saying yes. Things like "Is this " and ask your name or "Is this your address" or "Do you work for" or "Do you drive a". In each of these cases, when they ask that "Do you" question,  they will give you a prodding or pushing answer for you to say "yes" to. Like in "Is this (Your Name)" and they will say your name, prodding or pushing you to respond with "Yes". It is the same in each of those questions, they will have your address, the name of Company you work for, even the make or model of the car you drive.
Where do they get this information from, you might ask?
Most of the time from YOU. Because people will post all kinds of personnel information on social sites or places online that are easily obtained. There are even companies that will post information about you online that you do not have any control over or even know that they are posting that information. Even City, County and State government agencies where you live, may have or are required to post "Public Information" about you, that you may know nothing about.
    Don't believe me?
Just Google your name, start out with your first and last name, then try your full name. Then try it with your name and phone number or your address. You might be very surprised at what comes up. It's a yearly thing I do to see what is out there.
I was when I googled just my phone number and a scanned digital copy of car club meeting minutes, I belonged to back in 1998, came up with my name, address and phone number all still current. My phone number, by the way, is an unlisted number! When I googled my name, I found some documents and information from other states I was Stationed at during my Air Force career, some going back to the mid 1970's!
I can tell you that the information about you online is growing faster and is expanding year by year. For us older generations, like us Boomers, that information, also keeps getting deeper in to our past and you may not have any control or knowledge over what is posted about you. And if that information turns out to be incorrect or inaccurate, there is no way to fix that information.
