I believe the number is connected to a computer screen lockup where you are instructed to call that number where they will charge you $200 to unlock your computer screen claiming they are Microsoft Security tec.  Very likely a scam but you will have to google how to unlock the screen. BOSD dill register lock up.

My screen was locked up with boxed messages which I could not delete. So I called the number and spoke with a "microsoft Tech" who advised my computer was infected with viruses and ready to crash. He then stated he could solve the problem for $99. When I declined all my files, documents and photos were deleted. Can't get them back. Have been told the files were encripted and deleted. These guys are all Indians who go by different American first names and you speak to a different 1 each time. A total scam.

I too got the message that my computer had an error code and was locked up, have gotten this message twice in the last couple of
months. Ignore the message and click your mouse & go back to your original screen. it will go back to the screen with all of the icons
as if you are turning on your computer. None of your files are lost or deleted. Do none of the things that are instructed. Total Scam.
I clicked on a news item about a Fiorina last month, there was that msg. I clicked on a news item about Rubio today, same msg.
Your computer is not locked up. Scam msg from India workers.

Same alert/screen lock/message for me, and I'm on a Mac. I also clicked on the "the real reasonRubio suspended" his campaign and that's when my screen locked up. I turned the power off on my Mac and all is ok now.

Same thing happened to me when i clicked on Rubio story.

Bad link to website that says that there's a serious error on your computer and you must call this number to have a Microsoft tech repair it for you. STAY AWAY!!! I FORCE CLOSED THE BROWSER AND THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH THE PC.

screen locked and my husband contacted number and was told it would cost $250 to unlock.  We looked up the phone number on another computer in our home and discovered it was a scam.  shut down and ran Norton program.  Okay now.  Thanks for the fraud virus alert otherwise it would have cost.

Extortion number 855 279 6199 !!! Run the thorough virus program and continue your business. The problem begins when clicking on MSN gossip articles about republican candidates.

Another pain in my butt to even take time away from work.   I didn't follow any of their notice warning and shut computer down by turning power off, otherwise everything else was locked up.   On reboot computer went thru at least 4 attemps on it's own to restart, and then I started pressing F8 key and computer continued too boot...... leading to this message and no problems   Thats when I was able to check the 855 number which explains how I am able to say that so far nothing in their warning seems to be true.

Thanks for previous posts as I have gotten this same error/issue 3 times.  All were linked to supposedly MSN stories on why either Carly Fiorina or Mark Rubio has suspended their campaigns.  Web browser locked up and gave message to call the 855-279-6199 number to have Microsoft tech unlock my PC.  I used control/alt/delete, used task manager to end browser task.  I then ran CC Cleaner and scan of PC with no other issues.  Avoid these web stories.  Good luck.
