Someone called referencing a call back # of (855) 279-9798.  And I called it belongs to American Credit.

Is this a valid #?

I just got a call from this number 855-279-9798 the person on the other end Miss Dawit. She told me she was from the Legal Department and that she was getting ready to file a judgment against me for a Payday loan that i took, the complaint was that I wrote a bad check. She said that she could settle for 50% of the loan and if I don't get back to her today by 6.00pm she is going to have file the papers tomorrow morning. The thing is I paid off this loan and when I called back the number it belongs to American Credit. I feel a scam hoe can i find out who these people are and why they still my info out there that these people keep calling me.

Stated she worked with the legal department of Locator Services for Harris County.  Stated that based on a default of a Payday Loan that I am being charged in Harris County with Check Fraud and Theft by Check.  I must remit full restitution or my case would be turned over to the Harris County Sheriff's department to file a case against me.

Can this happen?

A male called me today asking where I was at because he had a summons for court to give me. I asked him what it was for and he would not tell me on the phone. He said he would provide that info when he hands me the summons to appear in court. So I looked this # online and found this thread. I think it is somekind of scam
