. But here's the thing that makes me go hmmm; no where on the website does it say "Attorney at Law." In addition, according to whois .com, the website was registered in November of 2024 and expires in one year. Can't speak to whether it is a scam because neither you nor Faith have told us the nature of the call. Perhaps others who have received calls from this group will post more information.Quote:...offer a wide range of legal services, including family law, estate planning, and business law. - Nimrod replies to Pudge| 5 replies
It is obvious that neither of them made the effort to answer the calls they received, so they have nothing to tell us. Faith is probably still scratching her head wondering how someone was able to call her "unpublished home number". If this "Dave" is the same "Dave" that constantly spams the site with series of identical posts that basically state "Got a call, did not answer, no message", do not expect any useful information from him.Pudge wrote:... neither you nor Faith have told us the nature of the call. - Pudge replies to NimrodAh...yes, that would account for it. :-)
- Dave replies to Nimrod| 3 repliesFirst of all, I am not your aforementioned Dave that constantly spams this site with brief and meaningless responses. Please consider the fact that there are many "Dave's" in the world. Now, as to my inquiry to Faith, I was fishing on this number to determine if Faith, or any other person, was given this number to call by a possible scammer. Before I associate a legitimate business with a potential scam situation, I like to do a little due diligence. For all I knew, this number and the "law firm" may be legitimate partners. I find this website useful because it is generally accurate in identifying faux numbers, whether it is a phantom debt collector, scam artist, etc. I have also seen numbers discussed on this website that were legitimate businesses, and the postings generally bear that out.
Now, having said all that, and as Paul Harvey would say, here is the rest of the story: I received a call from a person that identified as a process server, and their voicemail advised I should first call the 855 number to discuss my case with the "Law Firm of Meyer's and Daniels" and that I had to do so by 2 days hence or they (the process server) would be coming to see me on such and such a date. Now, I have had one other experience with the process server scam before, and with the help of 800Notes, I discovered it to be a fairly common scam. This was good stuff to learn as these scammers do come armed with enough personal info to unnerve most unsuspecting people......
Long story short, the designated date came and went, and no visit by the men in black or whoever was scheduled to come see me.....but I did get a call back from the original caller the following day, that I "failed to be available" (or similar- cant recall the exact wording), and now they were not so polite, letting me know for certain I could expect a knock on my door the following day. And BTW, made sure I had the name and number of the law firm but also assuring me it was too late.
Next day, I patiently waited, and again, no show.
So I can continue to see what happens, or I can just give in and call the 855 number. But as Pudge noted, there seem to be things about the website that make you wonder. I didnt go the route that Pudge noted (ie, checking whois), but if you look at the building address, you discover this is a bit of a high power office building, including a State senator and several other notable firms. The building directory has a tenant list, and I was unable to find our "law firm". Further, every tenant that does seem to be there includes a suite number. And what law firm would not have a complete address as well as a local phone number??
So yes, like Pudge, I am having a "hmmmmm......" moment or two about this situation, and one thing I have learned is to avoid engaging with someone unless they are absolutely legitimate. I suppose it could be real, and maybe someone is suing me and if so, I will find out about it eventually. I had my ID stolen in the recent past, and it is conceivable that someone used that info.
So, a bit more than "Got a call, did not answer, no message", but understand my reason- since there has not been the usual traffic on this website when a scam is in progress, I was just a bit cautious before I got too detailed. - Nimrod replies to Dave| 2 replies
I am quite aware that there are many "Dave's" in the world (I work with a couple of them) which why I wrote:Dave wrote:First of all, I am not your aforementioned Dave that constantly spams this site with brief and meaningless responses. That "If" means that I recognized that your post may not have been made by serial spammer "Dave" who had posted a dozen and a half useless posts, in quick succession, a short time earlier.Nimrod wrote:If this "Dave" is the same "Dave" …
Right there is the big red flag that this is a scam. Process Servers do not call people like that. They are paid to deliver court paperwork (usually summons) to people, and calling them like that would only make it harder to do their job since some people would strive to avoid being served, and they only get paid for a successful service.Dave wrote:I received a call from a person that identified as a process server, and their voicemail advised I should first call the 855 number to discuss my case with the "Law Firm of Meyer's and Daniels"
You are right, there are 9 different law offices there and none of them is that "law firm". However, there is a Regus Office there (in suite 1000). Regus offers "virtual offices" that can offer small businesses an appearance of being more than they are. From the Regus website:Dave wrote:… but if you look at the building address, you discover this is a bit of a high power office building, including a State senator and several other notable firms. Such a service has legitimate purposes, but scammers have found that they can rent a "virtual office" that will answer calls as them and transfer them to the scammers, plus they can get mailbox services that are not as obvious that it is a mail drop as renting a "suite" at a UPS Store.Quote:Business Address

On their website (all of three pages) there are stock photos, no photos of the "Attorneys" nor any mention of their first names or their history other than:
on the "Home" page (page 1) and:Meyer & Daniels wrote:With over 23 years of experience in the legal industry …
on the "About" page (page 2).Meyer & Daniels wrote:Meyer & Daniels has been working together for 23 years …
Rather strange that, considering how long the internet has existed and how prevalent it is, two intelligent people (and attorneys need to be intelligent) who had been working together for 23 years would not have thought to promote themselves (although rather poorly) with a website until about 5 months ago.
The claim that they have worked together for 23 years would mean that they have were licensed by the Virginia Bar in 2002 or earlier. On the Virginia Bar's website there are 101 attorneys with "meyer" in their name, and 25 with "daniels" in their name. Of the ones that only have those values as their last names, were licensed in 2002 or before and are neither retired, deceased nor a Virginia Judge there is no match-up between a "Meyer" and a "Daniels". Online search for a "Meyer & Daniels" law firm website that is not "meyeranddaniels.com" turns up nothing. So, while "Meyer & Daniels" would be the sort of name one might expect for a law firm, there is no evidence that two legitimate attorneys with those names have teamed up to form one.
If someone was suing you, a real process server would show up, unannounced and unexpectedly, and present you with the paperwork. They do not call in advance.Dave wrote:I suppose it could be real, and maybe someone is suing me and if so, I will find out about it eventually.
I am assuming that you did not call the number of the "law firm", since you did not mention that. Most likely if you did you would be told, by one of the "attorneys" (who might sound a lot like the "process server") that they are going to sue you for an old "debt" that you (supposedly) owe. Most likely the "debt" will be several years old, and usually far enough back that the date would make a real debt past the expiration of the Statute of Limitations. They are betting that people will not know that fact and not realize that they cannot be sued for such a debt. They are trying to instill fear in their potential victim and get them to act irrationally. The "debt" is usually in the thousands of dollars, but if the potential victim will agree to pay over the phone, they will settle the "debt" for half (or less) of the amount. If the potential victim hands over their credit card or bank account information to make the payment, they become a victim and quite a bit poorer.
I can understand being cautious, but you are going against the purpose of this site. The Home page of the site starts with this:Dave wrote:… but understand my reason- since there has not been the usual traffic on this website when a scam is in progress, I was just a bit cautious before I got too detailed.
People need to share useful information about their experiences with phone calls and texts. Sharing that you got a call from someone claiming to be a "Process Server" is important and not waiting to report it can possibly save someone else from being scammed. There are a number of "Regular" posters here that strive to help people to determine if a call/text may be a scam, but they need details about what the caller said or wrote to be able to do that. Just asking something like "Is this a scam?" is not helpful (to them or the readers that come later) without some details.800Notes wrote:800notes is a FREE REVERSE PHONE NUMBER LOOKUP database built by YOU, its users. In journalism there is a rule of thumb that a good article always contains the "5 W's" of Who, What, Where, When and Why and a good post here reporting a call/text should include as many of those as possible. Most people looking up numbers because they missed a call or got an unintelligible voicemail/text are hoping to find out at least Who, What and Why. Your follow-up text covers the 5 pretty well, your initial post, not so much.
If you decide to post more often, you might want to change the "nom de plume" you use (not that Dave is a bad name) or become a registered user (if "Dave" has not been taken already, since when logged-in your registered posting name shows in blue rather than black when you make a post) to avoid possibly being confused with serial spammer "Dave". - Dave! replies to Nimrod| 1 replyI do appreciate your input. Although I am older, i am a novice in many ways. Way back, when a person wanted to rob you, they had a weapon. Now, that weapon is a computer. And much more effective it seems.
I did use this website as a resource so it is only fair that I learn how best to utilize this resource.
Regards - Sonia' replies to Dave!I received a voicemail yesterday with the same message, giving me this number saying that it was the office of Meyer and Daniel's, I did call it, and it goes to a voicemail for Joshua Turner! After reading your comments Dave, I'd say it's safe to say it's a SCAM!
- SKI received a voicemail, I have all non-contact numbers blocked. Sometimes they have left a message. This call came from the number 346-739-8488. I was told to contact the law office of Myer and Daniel's by a Leah Jackson, who said she was with the state processing unit. It concerned a potential wage garnishment or lein. She had my full name and address. Although, I don't think she said the full name of my street correctly. I was given a case number to give them. I was informed that a server would be contacting me. That I needed to call the lawyers for further information.
I tried looking up both numbers and found little about them. I did not call, because I believe it to be a scam. I will be reporting this to the FTC.- Caller: Supposed law firm processing unit
- Call type: Scam suspicion
