- bulloch replies to drpDO NOT PAY!!!! This is a scam. They called me, too. I called my local police department. This is a new phishing scam. They just want money. If you think you owe a debt, ask them to send you a letter verifying that the debt is owed to them. They must do that within 5 days of taking the debt over if they are legal. They will try to give you excuses, but do not let them. This is a new number that the same people are calling from and doing the same old scheme from! Call your local PD!

She must give you the information in a written letter within 5 days of taking it over! Do not pay them. it is a scam. - casa replies to bulloch| 1 replyBulloch, I'm thinking that the way it works is that they have 5 days after YOU request validation of the Debt to provide the documentation that you request, in writing. Then you have 30 days to Dispute the debt, and do it in writing, and definately with a certified signature requested usps letter. If I am wrong on this or if anyone has something to further clarify it, please chime in...Thanks
- get the facts replies to casaThe requirements you speak of apply to 3rd party collectors. No offense to you...but some people take out loans with no intent to ever repay...loans that haven't had a payment made on them in 2-3 years in some cases. Who's the scam artist in that case? Should the person never have to repay the loan? Where does that scenario fit into your moral analysis?
- Attorney replies to Deonza WimberlyIt appears that there may be some leagal action pending and depending the type of loan, companies do have the right to have criminal charges brought against you and at that time the burden of proof is on you. When you have collection agencies attemping to collect that is considered your "validation" or "proff of debt" ... once it goes into litigation you normally have two options settle out of court or retain an attorney... either way this is all centered around your intent to defraud companies out of money. That is in fact illegal and you can face severe penalties...
**My best advice to you is to PAY your debt, don't obtain loans that you know you can't repay, and make sure you read the fine print**
