- Sucker| 3 repliesI also received a call from this company "Leigh & Associates". They had all of the my personal info. They threatened to take me to court for "Malicious Intent" to defraud a credit card company. He stated that the district attorney would not go easy on me for that. He wanted me to settle for over $572. He also called from 1-855-432-6887 and gave me Fax# 915-266-3422. Leigh & Associates 12672 Limonite Ave. #3E-541 Eastvale, CA 92880. I spoke with two different people one was Joseph Evans and the other Connor Morgan. I will be filing on this company with the BBB.
I have been scammed before by another company 3 years ago stating they were "Direct Litigation Group" 27475 Ynez, Rd Temecula, Ca 92592. Ph#888-311-5934, Fax#866-686-1287. They also threatened to file charges in court. One person's name was Darby Grant and the other Nina Roth. I paid them over $500 before I realized they were frauds! They were supposedly collecting for the same debt as the above company.
I turned them into the BBB. I was told by BBB if the company cannot give you the attorney's bar number they are not a LEGIT company!- Caller: Leigh & Associates
- JT| 1 replyThis company has called with threatening messages, stating that I am going to be served and could possibly be in trouble with the law. In fact the very first phone call I got from them stated that there was a bench warrant out for me. When I called them back I was sent to three different people who stated that I owed money for an old credit card that has been closed out for years. When I tried to research the company I came up with nothing valid. They will not stop harassing me. My second red flag was when they called me and when I dialed the number back it was a magic jack phone number. Is there something that can be done to stop this scam???

- Alfalfa replies to JTThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Even if you do owe a debt, these tactics are illegal and they are not in compliance with the FDPCA or any other debt collecting regulation.

- TammyI got a call from them today on work cell phone and at work. The woman called me and said that she had received a "complaint" about me and that a process server is looking to serve me legal papers. I explained to her that I am in the legal field and I know that she is lying as I work with the courts every day and know that there has been nothing filed against me. She gave the number of 855-756-8994 and a reference number that is basically "54321". I called that number and told the man who answered the same thing. He said that I was rude and hung up on me. LOL

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

- J. N.This company has all your information. Leaves messages on your cell and home phones regarding calling them back because they have received a complaint against you, then hang up on you when you tell them you are not the person they are looking for and ask too many questions as to who they are exactly. They are clearly not who they say they are and upon further investigation look like they are trying to get you to part with your money however they can! Beware!

Letter ends with 'Govern Yourself Accordingly' Don Sterling Legal Administrator. On the bottom reads that this letter is an attempt
to collect a debt, and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Also, it reads that litigation will commence immediately, if scammers do not hear from me within ten days. This has been going on for at least four or five years now, and sometimes they impersonate police/sheriffs. I am getting tired of it all. Phony debt collectors can go straight to Sheol.- Caller: P@D Ressources
