- Stephanie| 4 repliesCalled my cell and left a message for my husband. Stated that they were serving him on Tuesday with a notice of intent. They didn't leave any info as to why or who was serving. Just said they were from the claims dept.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Andrea Broughton| 2 repliesReceived call stating I had been "served" and needed to have valid ID available for this Wednesday as legal papers were going to be sent to my home address or place of business but never stated who was making claim against me or for what company they were representing.
- amy replies to Stephanie| 3 repliesStephanie- were you ever served?
- Slim replies to amy| 2 repliesLegitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process. They will deliver the notification without warning. One way to confuse any "process server scammer" is to ask these questions:
- What is the name of the person or company suing me?
- What is the reason for the suit?
- What is the name and address of the issuing Court?
- What is the phone number of the District Clerk's office where this process is registered?
Then, check those answers against the real District Clerk info you find on the Web, for your County. Or, ask the County District Clerk to tell you if you have a process being served.

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam
"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."
"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."
Definitions, if you need 'em:- A summons is an official notice of a lawsuit. It is given to the person being sued (the defendant).
- A subpoena is a court order. It requires someone to come to court, go to a deposition, or give documents or evidence.
- Papers is a word sometimes used by scammers, as a scare word. Legal documents can be sent via Certified mail. A courier is not absolutely necessary, although the Sheriff, Constable, or a Bonded Licensed Process Server might be used. Such people will have appropriate ID.

Ignore and block. Read Slim's notes. If there was a lawsuit being contemplated against you, you'd have heard about it from the attorney for the other party. You'd have a paper trail. You would not have heard about it from some scammery-scummery debt collector who refuses to give you a proper ID.
- Funniest Scam Alert Yet| 2 repliesThis fictitious / fraudulent company left a voicemail on my cell for my father stating that pursuant to state & federal law, they were providing a courtesy call regarding their intent to serve legal papers. The message went on to state that it was "mandatory" that my father make himself available between 12-6 with his state-issued ID to receive the papers. Of course the specified day came and went and no papers were ever served.
So many red flags, I could spot this scam from 100 miles away even if I weren't an attorney. I don't have the time to really drill down on this issue but if you receive a similar message, just know this is a regular old debt collector and no "papers" are forthcoming. There is no legal requirement to provide a courtesy call to give notice that you will be served. I mean think about it. How many wrongdoers do you think would actually make themselves available to receive service if they had advanced notice that a process server was on the way? It is not mandatory that you make yourself available to receive service either. The legal system does not expect you to miss work or school in order to be available to receive service. That's why the law allows you to be served wherever you can be found.
Like I said, there were numerous red flags throughout that ridiculous voicemail and unless you feel like tangling with a suspected scammer, I would simply block their calls.- Caller: LPS Legal Services

- Resident47 replies to Funniest Scam Alert YetOne popular talkoff advises to have "two forms of ID" handy and to secure dangerous pets before the phantom server arrives. There have been worse and more absurd PDL thug scripts, but they must all be quite risible to practicing attorneys. Very few stick their necks out on this site to corroborate what is known of fake debt collectors. Your remarks and business name ID are appreciated.
- Gladys1st I got a NO CALLER ID call from a Brooke Orders with LPS. . and the following message
that pursuant to state & federal law, they were providing a courtesy call regarding the intent of having ;legal documents being served for 2 suits against me attached to my SS #. The message went on to state that it was "mandatory" that I be available anytime after February 18 & have a state-issued ID to receive the papers. That is to ensure I am the person who is being sued. & for further information I can contact the filing party at 844-444-4130.
Called that number a Robert Wolfe answer the phone stating that in 2 days I would be served with the information who is suing me. I took the advice of Slim from above who responded on 2/6 and when I began asking questions he kept saying " you will have all that information in 2 days".
I had a similar call 4-6 month ago and the same. Maybe the next time I should play along and ask scarred and say I will pay get all the info and turn it over to the police.- Caller: LPS

- RetiredI just receased the exact same call. They phone number was blocked and the voice-mail message was I wold be served with nolive of intent (didn't say intent was for) for 2 claims that had my name and social security number attached. When I blocked my number and called back 8554444130, a Claims Officer Wolfe answered. No agency name, no law firm, no indication of where the bill is supposed to be from. Nothing. I immediately started investigating the phone number. I don't know anyone who doesn't send letters first!

- SMH at BSThis number called me twice. Once on Friday at work, which is a huge legal no-no, and today on my personal line. Stated he was Robert Wayne of LPS, that I am to receive a notice of intent at my residence and my work, in front of my supervisor, I might add, on Tuesday. And at the end of conversation & voicemail, Robert signs off by saying, "Good luck" or "Good luck to you." I agree with Slim that process servers do not call ahead and announce that they will be serving you. They just serve you. That's it. I suggest asking the caller those questions that Slim posted.

- Funkengroovin| 1 replyReceived another call Dave Stephens of LPS, stating the same as others here have heard. Returned the call this time and requested Dave but talk to lady who answered. I was not nice to her as I already searched the number and it comes up as a scan on several searches. She told me after I confirmed the last 4 of my SS# that she could tell me what it's about. Told her I would not because I don't know who they are and they come up as a scam when I looked on the net. She was polite and told me to wait until tomorrow and someone will be serving me the papers.

- JoanHave received calls from a guy claiming to be Quinn O'Malley saying I am going to be served today with papers. Have turned this number over to the Attorney General not that will do any good. But have called the last 3 days very annoying.

- Funkengroovin replies to FunkengroovinHere's an update. Today, Feb 24, I receive a call from the elusive Dave Stephens again telling me I was getting served today(was supposed to be yesterday) and he'd be seeing me soon. This time a local phone number came up on my caller ID. I googled the number, pinpointed the address, and decided I was going to find him myself. As expected, it was a home in a nice neighborhood. Obviously not a business. I will be calling the number back tonight and letting that person know their number is being used in a scam. As to the 855-444-4130 number, it comes out of Jersey City, NJ.
- Funkengroovin replies to SlimPlease read my comments posted here and let me know what you think. Should I turn this info over to police at this point?
