Missed a call. Voice mail left this as a return call about a process server. The number was not the call number it came from. I am unsure if scam or not. I don't answer calls from numbers that are not recognized.

Missed a call. Voice mail left this as a return call about a process server for legal proceedings. The number was an unknown number. I am unsure if scam or not.

    Process service dispatch.
    Case # 2022-209881

Called them back and was transferred to an "attorney's office". A male answered the phone and stated I didn't sound concerned enough. Then he advised someone will be serving me at 6 pm and hung up the phone.

Called about process service. Sounds like a totally bogus call. Process servers don’t call to warn people.

Was left a barely audible and fast spoken voice message (thank goodness for visual voicemail) regarding a process server for a summons. Left case # 2022-181234 and phone #.
After reading the previous entries I will not be calling back. I agree, a process server will not allow you to pick the time your being served.

Called from a Private Number, left voice mail stating that this is Linda Rodriguez with the Process Service Department and to return call at 855-484-1683 so that the information in the 2 documents can be checked for correctness. I called the number listed above and the male that answered the phone said a name of a law firm but I couldn't understand it. I asked him who he was and he asked if I was calling the litigation department. I told him I didn't know who I was supposed to be calling. He said he would see if he could find out for me. He came back on the line after a hold of 1 to 2 minutes and wanted me to confirm my name and last 4 digits of my social. I informed him that I wasn't answering any questions or confirming anything until I knew what this was about. He informed me that I could talk to his Judge and hung up on me.
Sounds like a scam to me.

Yep, it's a scam. REAL process servers don't call in advance. Block and ignore such calls if you can.

I got a call from my local area code (505). They left a voicemail said to call back 855 484 1684. Gave me a case number. I called the 855 number, told the guy who answered what the case number was. He was beyond rude. Said I had the number wrong. Then he called me weird. I hung up. This is a scam!! Beware!
    • Caller: Said it was a legal firm

You can't serve papers that don't exist.

The fake process server/location finder extortion SCAM usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation.  It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Female called, said needs to serve papers for my husband.  I said we have no legal issues, so must be a mistake.  She gave me 877-552-0393 & a "case number".  I called back- very rude guy.  Said he handles litigation & my husband was being sued for non payment of a Wells Fargo Master Card.  Told him, not us & no letters ever received, so it's not him.  Jerk was nasty & hang up on me.  Have to admit he's the most aggressive caller I've experienced.  Hope he rots.  But I may get police involved & callback to hear if there's a shakedown.

The police can't do anything so there's no point in bothering them. Just block the number and move on.

Received similar call from a local number. "Process server" told me they were going to serve at my address (which I havent lived at for 20 years :D) I asked for more info and she mentioned to call Brookmere & Associates at 877-755-1214

Called and gave my case number guy says I owe money to a Sears card and if not paid they are going to file it in court.

I asked for their address - looked it up and non existent company. Smells like scam all over.. I told him I would need to call him back he seemed annoyed.

What address did they give you and why didn't you include that very valuable info in your post?
