The URL "annualreditcheck.com" appears to be a redirect site that sends the user to one of a number of different sites offering "free" (for a monthly subscription) credit report and monitoring services. It took me to an entirely different site than it did you.Identity & Financial Theft Victim wrote:Went thru ANNUALCREDITCHECK.COM & ended up with CHECKFREESCORE.COM!
I will hazard a guess that the site you wanted to go to was "annualcreditreport.com". That is the site that was set up by the Government and the three major Credit Bureaus to allow people to request one free credit report from each of the Credit Bureaus once each year. That URL can be verified by going to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) website and searching for "How do I get a free copy of my credit reports?".
Looking at their current website, they do not offer a free trial, rather they offer a 1 week trial for $1.Identity & Financial Theft Victim wrote:They claim 7 day free trial then charge $39.90 per month! Less than 7 days they begin an Autopayment withdrawl from bank accounts!
From their Terms of Service, the charge for that $1 appears to be immediate:
Sites like this play games with the length of a trial and when the deadline for cancellation is. If you signed up for the trial at 8 am, you have to cancel before 8 am on that 7th day.Quote:Example: A customer signs up for a $39.90 monthly membership that begins with a $1.00 trial for 7 days. The customer will be billed $1.00 at the time of signup for a 7 day trial period, and after 7 days, if the customer has not canceled the trial membership, then he/she will automatically be charged the $39.90 per month until canceled.
They will also limit the manner in which you can cancel. I have seen some terms of service that state they will not do it by email, it needs to be phone call (not text), their website or a snail mail letter.
Apparently you missed important signs that they were less than ethical, such as the fact they advertise three tiers of service (Basic, Premium and Ultimate) but they offer no method to sign up for any of the lesser tiers, only "Ultimate" at $39.99/month.
The site gets a whopping 1.3 of 5.0 score at Trustpilot.
And, with many banks. credit unions and credit cards those services are offered for free or for far less that these companies charge.Identity & Financial Theft Victim wrote:These types of services do not do anymore than what banks & credit card companies already do!
That is pretty much true for any service that "monitors" your credit reports. They can only see and tell you about what was reported to your credit record after the fact.Identity & Financial Theft Victim wrote:They Do Not Prevent Fraud instead just notify member of possible fraud that's all! - Paul ArmstrongCHECKFREESCORE.COM is a total scam. Don't post your information on this site or any like it, they are all related and working together to scam you. 1-855-506-9167 is an AI loop you can not cancel your membership. Go and have a new card issued from your financial institution immediately.
