They just called me at 7am which is illegal. The CRTC in Canada has ruled about businesses calling homes.

It is a new type of a scam. The caller said - who-ever hears this - please call back and this is your V.N.# Which means that the caller is a fake. Pretending to be calling for Rogers or Bell - or who-ever! Never give out your private info to strange callers like that one! If you pay a Troll caller- you will have a very hard time to get your money back - if you ever will get your money back! So do not pay fake Bills in the first place!

same as the rest, repeated calls (sometimes from blocked numbers) from a collection agency who does not bother to double check their information
I dealt with this issue for the previous user of my phone almost 3 years ago, I wonder why this seems to be starting up again for older accounts
what is the best course of action in these types of situations?

CRV is for Telus and they can call between 7-9pm M-Sat & Sun 1-5 & not on Holidays. Also if you never have them you're cell number they are not allowed to call u on it.

Also before you give them any information ask them this which is by law:

What you should do when a debt collector calls you
When a debt collector calls you, ask for and write down the following information:

Who you are talking to—is the original creditor or is it a debt collection agency?

The name and company of the person calling, and their telephone number.

The amount of the debt, who you owe it to, and when the debt started.

If the details of the debt are not familiar to you, looking at your statements can help you confirm whether or not this debt is yours and if the amount is correct.

Tell the debt collector that you will call them back as soon as you verify the information.

These are your rights and if they don't then don't answer for them. Know your rights and fight back or call and waste their time.  I did that for 20 mins they weren't happy.

These idiots call me over and over again and never even leaves a message so I'm not calling them back! I'm handicapped and these calls are crating on my nerves. My husband pays all of our bills well before the due date, my cell phone has never had a bill go past the due date so I have zero clues on what they want from me.

One of a few numbers that call my cell almost daily asking for some dude with a Japanese sounding surname. I've sometimes answered to say he hasn't owned the number in over a year and the person will say okay and thank me but the calls haven't stopped or lessened at all.

Just got a call from these scammers.  I was told I have an outstanding Rogers bill of over $2000. I kindly informed him that he has his facts wrong and that the debt was $845 and was paid four years ago. I also told him to take my info out of his system or the next time they call I will report them to the RCMP.  My husband and I have ZERO debt. No cards no payments of any kind. So this kind of BS really pisses me off.

I had these morons call me at 10:30 pm (Alberta time) which is 12:30 am EST.  Not cool. I asked the chick on the other end if she knew what time of day she was calling me. She said no. I told her the time and then told her I was hanging up because I don't take kindly to being woke up from my sleep.

False.   We are only allowed to call you ONCE per week if we make contact(which includes leaving a message, which they try to circumvent by hanging up but if it's on the VM, it counts)   Must be Monday through Friday between 9 am and 6 pm. and not on weekends or holidays.   I work in collections but Im on of the few who is still human.

I can help shed some light here.   Did you settle up with Roger's directly?   If you did they have no obligation to call CBV and tell them.   Remember collection companies often "buy" the debts, so they will continue to try and get their money back.   After a while it will naturally filter out as it will disappear from their database.   Unfortunately, you have to wait them out.   Im a collections worker...and I hate the practices employed by many companies...which is why I offer my advice and knowledge
