To all consumers reading this thread ---- debt is a civil matter (i.e., a "tort"), not a criminal matter (i.e., a "crime").  Apples and oranges.  Crimes are dealt with in criminal court --- torts are dealt with in civil court.  Two completely different things

    What does this mean?

You can not be arrested for a debt.  No some shady bottom feeders will attempt to tell you that you are being charged with or arrested for a "bad check" since you may have used a posted dated check to secure the PDL in question.  The is hogwash.  Posted dated checks for PDLs are not covered under "hot check" or "bad check laws"

You may be sued in civil court for a debt.  However, people don't call and warn you ahead of time before they sue you, they just sue you, period.

Also, I've posted up a lot of information on the previous page about "Kauffman and Associates" based on their website registration information.  Please refer back to that post

What can be done about this? If it is a scam or if it is an actual law firm that has bought the debt? I am so very nervous that I am going to be served. I continue to contact Allied Cash Advance to speak with someone but I am not having any luck.

Being nervous would just be a normal reaction for a decent person who has just been threatened with such nonsense on the phone.  I can assure you 110% it is not a criminal matter (I do know a few things about that due to my career).  No technically you can be sued, but in my 20+ years experience no one ever calls to warn you that they will sue you, they just sue you.

This is not an actual law firm btw, just a collector of very questionable legality.  In the odd chance the debt actually exists and they actually own it, their behavior is clearly in violation of the FDCPA

Please count me in. I called a call today as well as my son and my son in law. They claim  to be investigators and have a legal suit against me. I called them and when it became apparent they are trying to collect on a debt i paid off almost 2 years ago, they didn't believe me. I also told them that I have a copy of the paid off letter. Then they hung up. How did you get their company name? Is it Kaufmann and Assoc?? I filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General and left a message with the Fraud hotline number. Don't know what else to do.

Also keep in mind: Any debt collectors who refuse to provide debt validation in *writing* generally do so because they have more to fear from the law than you.

Interesting note — the web site at kaufmannandassoc.com has been taken down. The site at http://tamikabryant.net/RJFinancial/DOFI/ is still up at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised to see it vanish shortly, too.

A very good point you make indeed regarding the lack of documentation.

Wow, that kaufmannandassoc.com site didn't last very long did it?  Perhaps the regulars can take an over and under on the other one?

Just imagine what is going to happen when their victims try to go the their website now :)

Doesn't look like its down as in off the air, looks like someone removed all the webpages or just the index page and may be planning a new launch. I would watch this. Its record shows it alive and well, at least for now.

A business site (looks like Wordpress) as a subdirectory of another site...a site which is "under construction".  Looking at the client facing site is fine for establishing credibility, but I like to go deeper.  In this case, the website builders know nothing about redirection, for if they did they could have at least tried to hide the nasty URL.

When they called me a little bit ago the guy, Chris Lockhart, said the company name was Sanderson Blaine Associates. I asked for a local number and he said the 855 was the local number. Then I asked for a physical address and he tried to give me a P.O. Box number.

I basically received the same kind of call. But they said I owed Chase bank from 2007 and that if I paid it today they would cut it in 1/2. I told them that was taken care of. They tried to intimidate me, so I told them I would call my Atty and I would call back. My Atty said it was a hoax. The scary thing is they have all my info.
