Predatory scammers in the guise of bill collectors. A lot of the time they will call and ask for family members.

Woman called asking for my Father, who passed away in March & who has never lived with me. I explained that he passed & she asked me to send his probate papers by fax, in order to release info to me. I asked what services do they even provide, she said she couldn't even tell me that. I found the matter strange, so after I hung up I called the number on the caller ID, explained to a woman that worked there about the request. She put me on a brief hold, then hung up on me. I'm not sending them anything. It feels like a scam.

If you are not the executor of your father's estate, they should not be contacting you.
There are "debt collectors" that try to guilt the relatives of deceased into paying debts.
And sometimes those debts are phony.

It seems likely your dad had a loan thru online lender Avant.  The number they called from is the same one they used to contact me about a loan payment -  for my own loan,  which is valid.

Avant calling about past due loan payment - valid call.  Did not leave a message.

Um ... if they did not leave a message, how do you know the topic of the call?

Since you are so happy with them, please answer the following questions:

1. Who are they?  What is their full, legal name
2. What is their legal address (no box numbers)
3. Where is their website?
4.  In what states are they licensed?

If you do not answer these questions, you will be considered to be nothing more than a shill for that phone number.

These people called here today looking for my ex-wife (ten years divorced). Asked for her by name. Said she didn't live here and what's this about. Can't tell me but asked if I knew her. Said I couldn't tell them anything about her, but if they ever called here again I'd consider it harassment and deal with it accordingly with the proper authorities.

None.  I have them blocked from prior calls.  It does have to ring once though.  Enough to wake me up. Fockers.

Valid debt collector AVANT attempting to collect a payment. They sent a valid check in the mail to me shortly after I was laid off. They collect money out of your bank account on the same day each month.  Chris did not mention being happy with them he simply stated what they wanted. Google them you'll find their website and all the info you need.  All that matters is They are not scammers

Debt collector. Looking for a "Clifton Lanier". They call anyone with the Lanier name, or anyone with the last name of the poor soul they're looking for.

If you call that number the ID themselves as "Avant Payment".  Supposedly in Illinois.  Lady would not give me any more information.    Hard to tell what sort of group this really is.   Strong possibility of a some sort of debt collection group.   Several groups have the name "Avant" or "Avante" as part of their name.

This is Avant debt collection.  I am in debt consolidation program and have asked them to not contact me but my legal counsel.  Since then they now call me on not just my cell phone # but now also calling me at work.  I have reported this to my legal counsel, and they will be filing a lawsuit.
