855-777-1707 is a known scam. Do not call! They trick you into providing passwords to your accounts.

Do as I do, keep calling them back and bothering them.  If nothing else it keeps someone else safe a few minutes.  They are not in the US so there is little can be done except annoy them.

I called this number looking for AOL help.  The gentlemen I spoke with (probably in India) kept stating that he needed to confirm my AOL account by giving him credit card information, my telephone #, and my address in order to generate a 'confirmation #).  I kept protesting, but he kept saying that once the 'confirmation #' was generated, he would be able to help me.  Foolishly I gave him the information he requested, received a confirmation #, and then got disconnected.  I immediately went online to my Chase VISA account, but then received an emailed alert as well as a text message alert asking if I recognized the $1.00 charge made to my account.  I responded that I didn't (knowing of course it was not legitimate).  I will be receiving a new card with a new account # on Wednesday (today's Monday evening).  Then I will have to notify the accounts that automatically charge my credit card monthly of the new account #.  I need to locate a legitimate # for AOL.  855-777-1707 used to be legitimate, but no more.

The verification code means that he changed your password to AOL.  He now has access to everything on that site that you have stored.  Also, why did you not go directly to the official AOL website to get help?

It is Verizon  now, but with millions of customers already in place, it was cost effective to just keep the name I guess. Same with Yahoo! and Netscape.....

I recall when AOL bought Time Warner-- that didn't last very long.  Didn't Verizon also buy Yahoo?

Yeah, the Time Warner merger was the cause of AOL's decline and placed it more into the role of advertiser, than a service provider.  AOL owned Yahoo and Netscape, so both went to Verizon Media along with AOL.

Well they called it Oath for a while and now it is Verizon Media Group.
