I received a phone call from Kaufman and Associates telling me I owe for a payday loan from loan.com.  Her name is Karen Brown.  I'm in the process of going to court to pay for this bill or I could make arrangements to pay the bill off.  I asked them to email the documents showing I took out a loan with this company.

I received a call stating I owe for a payday loan of $500.00 and I do not have any payday loans.  This person's name was Mrs. Wright.  When I first answered the phone they said I had a bad check, but I do not write checks and I know that was wrong.  Then I called back and it was a payday loan.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Received a call from a 980-216-1237 number, a person on the phone named Robert Johnson threated me with court papers, said he needs my address to serve papers, told me to call him back at 855-791-2353, but didn't call back.  I called the court house and I have nothing pending. This is a scam that I have reported.  These people are out for money, beware.

I was also contacted by my HR department.  I want to fight this.  I do owe the loan, but I wanted to ask for a payment arrangement and I was not given that option.  I went to my county court and they advised me to try to contact Kaufman  and associates but i was told the paperwork was already submitted.

In response to this.  Ok I dont agree with the tactics that some of the agencies use and it's not necessary to use such force, but I have to admit as a consumer, when we dont pay our debts, it makes it harder for lenders to advance funds to us because they have to deal with the fact of risk.  We all fall on hard times, and we turn to these companies for help.  They are just asking for their money back.  They have a right to receive their funds back as agreed.

We as consumers need to be more conscious of borrowing and if we can't pay right away, do the noble thing and try to setup an arrangement.  I see all of you venting about the collection practices, but what made the agencies go this far?  WE ARE NOT OWNING UP TO OUR FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS.  I joined a credit counseling service.  Search your options before your quick to jump and report people for scamming.  I'm sure we all know who we borrowed from and it's easy to get your bank records.  Cudos to those of you that are willing to do the right thing.

THEY HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT INFO.  WHEN I RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT MY PAYDAY LOAN.  THEY KNEW WHEN I TOOK IT OUT, WHAT BANK AND THE AMOUNT.  I CALLED THE PDL COMPANY AND THEY HAD THE SAME THING, SO I PAID MINE.

JUST ASK FOR THE INFORMATION....STOP RUNNING FROM YOUR RESPONSIBILITY...

UR RIGHT....IT'S SAD THAT PPL HAVE TO GO TO THIS LENGTH TO GET THEIR MONEY BACK.  WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO HONOR???  WE COULD DO A LOT BETTER IF WE WERE MORE RESPONSIBLE.  SMH...I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S SO EASY TO DENY SOMETHING WE KNOW WE DID AND THEN LOOK AT OURSELVES IN THE MIRROR...I THINK ITS CALLED SELECTIVE MEMORY.

Catherine, everyone here is encouraged to pay their debts. That's never an issue. The issue is fraudulent and/or bogus debt collectors & second rate JDBs trying to use unlawful tactics to collect invalid, time-barred or purely fictitious debts.
The regulars here know more about the debt collection industry than any of the shills for them can ever dream of knowing. We are a team & we can not be fooled or toyed with. Try if you like! Within hours everything that can be known about your outfit will be posted right here.
If a collection firm has legitimate title to a valid debt, they have nothing to fear. They will adhere to all the regulations stipulated in the FDCPA & their names will never appear here. If they don't....they'll show up here & they'll be torn apart by a well-educated bunch of people who will leave nothing but scraps in their wake. Be smart Catherine. If your outfit is pushing the limits, don't try to validate their schemes here. Many have tried. Only the dumbest & most desperate try twice.

I called the number back just a few minutes ago. A woman answered the phone and simply said "Attorney's Office."  My reply was that I need their name, address and license number for my own information.  She asked me who I was, and I said it was not important who I was only that I and several other people that I know had received several harassing phone calls from them.  So again, I asked for their name, address and the license number of their company so that I could forward it to the Attorney General's Office.  I was even very pleasant and said I would appreciate that information.  She hung up on me!

So my question for all is how to get them to quit calling.  This is ridiculous.

think about it would anyone give you a heads up if they were sueing you ,...nope...do not fall for this scare tactic a lot of companies out of NY do it to get people to pay them. They will not serve you they are not even licensed to collect on a debt just tell them you are waiting and hang up or better yet don't give them a call just ignore it. They will just sell it to another company and so on and so on.
