    I keep getting this call from a collection agency saying I owe money for a payday loan, they also say that if I dont pay they are going to take me to court and file theft by check charges against me.  They say it is being filed in my local county court and when I called my local county court they have no records on me.  This is a SCAM, I have attempted to block them but they somehow get thru.  I wish they would stop harrasing me because I am about ready to file a lawsuit against them.

    Yes, the are definitely a SCAM.  Report them to the FTC, the FBI and your state's attorney general's office.  Don't admit to any debts and make sure you do not send them any money.

    I've just got through and spoke to a "Morgan Taylor", they claim to be a Law Firm and will ask for a case number, if you don't give them your info they will NOT answer any questions and will hang up on you. I called back and demanded for them to tell me what they do but she told me that without a case number she can't help me and hung up on me again!
    Def. a scam!

They call my mother and sister. They never leave a name just a case number and phone number. Totally frustrating... Any advice.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I have contacted the FTC twice regarding this. I have also screamed at the person I talked to at that number threatening a lawsuit and telling them I called the FTC on them and he had no idea what the FTC was. Obviously, the FTC has done nothing about this. I am pretty sure I am not the only one calling about this SCAM!

    I just got a phone call from 855-805-5549 and they threatened to file bank fraud against me in my county. I told them that I already paid the debt and I needed their fax number and they put me on hold for 5 minutes. until somebody else was trying to tell me the same thing. All I wanted was their fax number to prove that I paid the debt and they would not give it to me. Any reputable debt collector would have given me their fax number but they didn't. These people our obviously a scam. Report them to your towns Attorney Generals office when you have a chance.

    This phone number is linked to other numbers and yes all a scam. The other numbers that all link back to this number  855-803-2349 and 855-775-2417.   These people say they are an investigators and bringing charges for a default on a payday loan with a "case number" even.  They  have an answer for everything.  Don't believe them they are scam artists.  My story is almost exactly as Brooke on top of the page.  Way toooooo coincidental.

    My husband got a call from this number today. A recording stated a case number and asked for me. When I called this number it is simply a recording stating "you have reached the investigations division. Leave your name, case number, and phone number and someone will get back to you." After reading everyones comments I truly believe this is a scam.
