This is actually the NRA (National Rifle Association). I called the number back and they clearly state the full name and start talking about important legislation affecting gun owners' rights........ I am still blocking the number because I do not need such calls, especially at work.

I received a call asking for me at my work place.  I called the number back and it does have a recording stating it is the National Rifle Association and if I would like more info. on the NRA to press 1.  Very suspicious indeed.

I work for a small business and this number has started calling us. I can tell it is a call center b/c when I answer there is silence and then a lot of noise. They started to ask for someone who no longer works here and I just hung up. Another nonsense call wasting my time! I've read that this is a possible collection agency.

Lawyer above is correct.  This is the National Recovery Associates.  They are spoofing numbers from the NRA which is very easy to do.  I got a call that showed my own phone number on the caller ID.  If you call the number, of course it will go to the National Rifle Association, but they are NOT the ones making the call.  I've seen this dozens of times with the NRA and others.  The National Recover Assoc are a collection agency, and not a very good one.  They won't use their real phone number because they're dishonest liars and why they will call at all hours including weekends.  It is not the NRA.  Best thing you can do is block the number because the national DNC list doesn't work.

I got a call from this number.  When I answered, it sounded like someone was on the phone; however, they hung up.  I called the number and got a message saying it was the National Rifle Association with important updates.  What angers me is the message said they would try again since they missed me.

Who cares WHO if it is the NRA, NBA or NSA! They are cold calling us. I don't pay for phone service so these hucksters can use it to sell me something. I block these kinds of numbers. They can talk to my answering machine. Nuff said...

A rather pushy National Rifle Association member calling to try to get one of my parents to renew their membership to help fight congress and the President from affecting gun owners rights. I told the caller once no and she kept on talking that for only 25 dollars down and a 600 after that you can have a lifetime membership and a flashlight. I said no again and she hung up. Hey I'm all for gun rights that's everyones responsibility but after the lifetime hook they would probably still call anyway. Besides who has 600 dollars to spare in general.

Debt collecters selling NRA memberships? Well the "National Recovery Agency" just called from this number, no "debts" were discussed, but this "alleged" debt collector did try to sell me a lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association. When I refused, she tried to get me to renew my current 5 yr  NRA membership with a credit card, right now. Again I said no thanks, I'm good until 2018, and I don' t give out my credit card # over the phone unless I initiated the call to buy something. Anyone who does is a [***]. She seemed offended by that.

Strange behavior for a "debt collector", selling memberships to an org with same initials..... LOL

Spoofed in Texas replies to Solo
This was in an earlier post that I copied that gave a good explanation.  Mine is second paragraph.

Actually, the National Recovery Agency (a collection agency) bought a software program for their auto dial that hides their originating number and shows the National Rifle Association's number on caller-ID.  Then when you call it back, another organization (in this case, the NRA) takes the blame, all while the real company calling - National Recovery Agency - is left to continue to call you in the future.  Brilliant, because they take none of the blame for ticking people off.

I have had crank callers that somehow has gotten my wife's cell phone number, her name shows up on my caller Id, when I answer it is crank yankers recording. This has happened several times in the past. When I call it back it goes directly to her phone. We will be sitting in the same room and she will say I am not calling you!

Ok, I stand corrected. It IS the National Rifle Association. I called them using the number listed on their website. I spoke with someone and told them I wanted the calls to stop. They were are polite, professional and courteous. They said they would place me on their "Do Not Call List". They said it would take about a week for the calls to stop and they have. No more calls!

Thats because the DNC is for telemarketers, not Debt Collections. Debt Collection falls under the FDCPA laws.

    I just got this call.

THREE YEARS AND 7 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS LATER AND THE GOVERNMENT STILL HAS NOT SHUT DOWN THESE SCAMMERS.  Then the IRS decides to screw taxpayers and cut out their customer service department so that you can't even find out how much money you need to pay.  But don't worry, if you pay one cent too little they will sick their goons on you, and if you pay them way to much you will never hear from them at all.

Then there is the stinking government "Do Not Call" list.  How many billions it THAT useless POS costing taxpayers?

    We need a taxpayer's revolt!

By the way, this caller is NOT the National Rifle Association.  It's some scam company calling themselves "National Recovery Associates"  ... same initials as NRA.  THEY NEED TO BE PUT IN PRISON but the useless government eats our money like some fat slob, does absolutely NOTHING and then has the NERVE to ask for even MORE money!

Well someone wanted to get their political rant on a web site.  What does telemarketing, have to do with the IRS?  What does debt collection have to do with the IRS?  What does the IRS phone system have to do with anything related to any post on this web site?
"How many billions it THAT useless POS costing taxpayers?"  It costs nothing because it is self supporting from the fees collected from legitimate companies (notice I said legitimate as opposed to thsoe companies violating the law which are criminal).
"We need a taxpayer's revolt!"  And that will solve what?  Will it get us another law for criminals to break?  Because that is what they do.
"By the way, this caller is NOT the National Rifle Association.  It's some scam company calling themselves "National Recovery Associates"  ... same initials as NRA."  And you know this because you have had personal interaction with this debt collector calling from this number?  Or is that another one of your suppositions?

07/15/15  What ever gave you the idea that the government works for us?  My understanding is that the DNC list is more of a feel-good measure without enforcement, and doesn't really do anything to stop these calls.  The list was instituted so that companies that would rather not harass and alienate people with phone solicitations have a way of knowing who would prefer not to receive such calls. They can subscribe to the list.  Bottom-feeding lowlife companies that don't care about annoying folks simply do not comply.  And whoever answers such robo calls gets known as a "live one" and their number is sold to other boiler room operations.  I got so annoyed with the sheer quantity of such calls I was receiving daily that I subscribed to call blocking, only to learn that it will not block toll-free calls.  So now there are only half a dozen known numbers from which I will pick up a call.

Well I guess you understanding is wrong.  "a feel-good measure without enforcement, and doesn't really do anything to stop these calls."  There are numerous cases where the FCC and FTC have taken companies to court, but I guess you were too wrapped up in your little theory to look those up.  "The list was instituted so that companies that would rather not harass and alienate people with phone solicitations have a way of knowing who would prefer not to receive such calls."  Wrong again, the list was started so that legitimate companies would not call the people on the list. "Bottom-feeding lowlife companies that don't care about annoying folks simply do not comply. "  These would be called criminals, the type of people that obey no laws.  "I got so annoyed with the sheer quantity of such calls I was receiving daily that I subscribed to call blocking, only to learn that it will not block toll-free calls"  There are phones and stand alone call blockers that would do the job with a one time investment instead of a monthly fee.
