You cannot be "served" over the telephone.  It has to be in person or by certified mail, depending on local court Rules of Civil Procedure.  You have to be served a complaint, and then you have to be given time to answer it, usually 20 to 30 days.  Then you have discovery.  This all takes months before you get into the courthouse, and in most cases you will be going before an arbitration board.

Thank you, I got the same call, and a court date.  A Marcus Brown,  said I have been served.  I called them back and a different person answer and the dates she said I wasn't in country,  I was deployed. How can they get this information?  The hack from Equafax. This is wrong.

If the Equifax hack hadn't been announced you would have simply been asking how?  There was 143 million records stolen, and I can pretty much tell you that it will be years before they get through all of them.  Criminal debt collectors have been getting information on people for years and years before this one single hack.  There are posts on here that go back to 2007 where people are complaining about the same thing.  There is so much information about you out there on the internet and it is all for free.  Pictures of your home (thank you Google), a myriad of websites that list all your friends, family, neighbors, etc., and the list goes on and on.  Further, if you were deployed at the time you are also entitled to other protections under the law.  If you are still enlisted you may be able to get some help from the military's legal branch.  Thank you for your service.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
